2011 BEC material is good for 2012 or not

    I am schedule to take BEC exam on the 3rd week of Jan. Is it OK to study with 2011 material for BEC or do I need to buy

    2012 material.

    I am taking Becker CPA Live Review for BEC. Becker had this class during December (Dec. 3, 10 and 17) and the books/materials we used were 2011. After questioning the instructor regarding this, she mentioned that she wouldn't expect any drastic changes that would require 2012 material until later in the testing window and that Becker wouldn't use 2011 study materials during December if it thought the exam was going to change so much in early 2012.

    Technically, I am on the same boat as you. Using 2011 materials for a 2012 exam is concerning…but then again, Becker knows best…hopefully. 🙂

    Aishan, my approach, which I am using for BEC when I sit on February 4th, is to read through the BEC 2011 Becker book and use supplements.

    Additionally, after I am finished with BEC (starting BEC 5 today 🙂 ) I will be reading through the following BEC Becker course updates that I think may provide additional information (which Mini recommended)

    I decided to buy Wiley 2012 since it it is pretty cheap relative to Becker. Also, I need some degree of verification against Becker materials, there are a few errors in the reading. If you do not want to buy it, Wiley published its own 2011-2012 course updates.

    There might be some GAAP/IFRS convergence questions, based on what Becker said in BEC 1. I would recommend the charts in the following PDF. The PDF is 200 pages, the charts in each chapter are pretty comprehensive; remember the exam won't be that detailed, look for the big hitters like revenue recognition differences.
