Does anyone have any study tips for re-taking after making a 74 twice in a row? I feel like i know the information well enough to pass but somehow I am always lacking one point. I am using Yaeger to study.

I am with you and my scores are 73, 74 & 74. I always score comparable in WC. Economic Concepts is the weak area. What I understood is that, not only economic concepts, there should be some more incorrect answers in MCQs in the other areas of the BEC. The score comparison provided to failed candidates are scores obtained vs. scores obtained by the passing candidates in the range of 75 – 80. If they compared the failed candidates scores with those who scored >90, then I may be weaker in all areas of BEC. Therefore at this point, it is inevitable that there should be change in the preparation strategy, clear understanding and application of concepts and different approach in attempting the exam. One can pass BEC even without considering the WC part, but MCQs has to be done exceedingly well as per AICPA FAQs.

Can I pass the BEC section just by doing well on the multiple-choice questions?

Yes. However, it would be very difficult to do so as you would have to perform

exceedingly well. It is advisable to be prepared for both the multiple-choice and the

    written communication questions.

i'm willing to bet its the sims that are holding you back. last few times my score report showed stronger in mcq and weaker in sims. what i did this time was to put more emphasis on studying sims on top of doing the usually mcq

wiley has good ones and so does the gleim book and i only did the tax ones, didn't bother with blaw sims

    you can do it! gluck

Not a problem nolifecpa. My scores between the two have varied by weighted section. The only common factor is financial management which I studied for extensively and felt comfortable with on the exam and it said I was weaker. I was stronger in econ, comparable in all except financial management. I know based on the past two tries you should study everything again because no test has the same proportion of questions in each topic.

It took me three times to pass this horrible exam. I used Becker for the first 2 times and the third time I used both Becker and Wiley's. I bought the Wiley book and test bank questions and I believe that was what gave me the additional points I needed to pass (barely). I really thought I knew the material, but passing with only a 78, I guess not.

What helped my score was that I actually had somewhat of a clue of what to write on the sims part. The second time I took the test, I got topics that I could not BS my way out of due to the lack of knowledge in those areas. The Wiley book has a lot of these sims that I saw on the 3 different tests, so it won't hurt reading the topics and answers.

    REG – 68, 81- PASSED

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will continue to persevere and I will pass soon. I will provide an update once I retake BEC in the next testing window.

If my scores lapsed to the point where I'd have to take BEC again, I'd find a new profession (not really). BEC was the worst studying for and I don't envy anyone else who has to deal with that nonsense.

    AUD - 75
    REG - 69, 5/30/12
    BEC - 78
    FAR - 75
