I started studying for BEC last week and have gotten through the first two chapters using Becker. Basically the first two chapters are mainly those Cost Accounting type problems, there are sooooooooo many small topics with so many different formulas. I feel really overwhelmed, even after going through all the MCQ and the lectures.

I guess my question is did you guys feel very overwhelmed as well after the first couple chapters? I am just deciding if I should continue reviewing these topics, or move on even though I do not feel completely comfortable yet, and just re-review this closer to the exam ( I take it about a month from today).

Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated!

I felt overwhelmed seeing going through the book the first time around. By the time the exam came around I knew all the equations. If you just take some time and try to understand what the equations require then it's easier to understand.

I hated studying for BEC. It was honestly the exam that I disliked the most. But the main thing is just make sure you understand the business process and how things work. I didn't have a lot questions that required the equations on my exam. Its mainly a conceptual exam. Just remember the variance equations.

@RyanC23 I swear, this post could have been written by me. I feel the exact same way that you do, and am also just finishing up with chapter 2 right now. I too feel overwhelmed by all the information, mainly all the cost accounting formulas and knowing when to apply different things and what to look for. I don't really have an answer for your questions, but I'm in the exact same boat that you're in right now.

@Accountingbeans I guess what is frustrating is Becker's MCQa are SO heavy on computation questions (about 75% of all questions I've had so far), yet what I am hearing from everyone on here is the whole test is concept based with very few actual computational questions. I understand it is important to get the computational questions in order to answer conceptual ones, but the MCQ on Becker are super detailed and tricky. Im starting to see no point in stressing over these types of questions, especially if they wont be on the exam, but at the same time i'd rather be over prepared just in case.

I think Im going to just get through the lectures and homework first time around, and power through regardless how stressed and overwhelmed I feel. Then hopefully have about a week or week and a half to start reviewed things I felt iffy and less comfortable on! Good to know someone is in the same boat, let me know how it goes.

Don't ignore the computations because people are telling you it's “mostly conceptual.” It's a different test for everyone and you don't know what you're going to get until you get there. The Becker questions are really hard, but that's good because if you can do them, you can pass the test. I got quite a few computational questions when I took BEC.

EDIT: I also felt really overwhelmed after the first couple of chapters. It all starts to come together the more you review it. If I were you I would do the practice tests at the end of each chapter with questions from all the chapters you've covered so far so it stays fresh in your mind, I didn't do that because I was short on time but I really wish I had. Don't get too stressed out, you've got this!
