There are a lot of posts about people freaking out over medium testlets, but I felt pretty bad after BEC gave me 2 very hard testlets. Has anyone gotten 2 hard testlets and then failed? The last score can’t come soon enough!

the way i see it is you did well at least on the first 2 testlets in order to keep getting hard testlets till the end

I had the exact same experience last Friday. I marked 10-13 questions in both of the hard testlets. But I think it is probably enough. I marked 8 in each of my hard testlets for REG and I got a 92, so I think there is some room for error. Anyway, I would rather have med hard hard than all medium or medium hard medium. Hopefully we found out for sure soon!!

I am confused what is the bases in determining whether a testlet is hard or medium.?Is it the wordiness of the question contents ?.If that is the case then I have failed my REG exams as I did not get any questions which was heavy worded also I did not notice any trend change from testlet 1-3 and did not mark any question .Does it mean that I have failed because the questions where not heavy worded and I did not mark any question.OOOOOh Sept 9 please bring some goods news to me .

Jack- Everyone is different. I think some people cannot tell if it gets harder. I know based on the number of questions I mark as a problem in each section. Since you know the first is medium you can use that as a gauge. If you do not mark any questions then maybe you just studied very well. I find the medium testlets very easy (easier than my review materials), then the hard ones very hard (harder than my review materials). But I am using CPA Excel.. If you are using something else maybe you are used to more difficult questions. If you didn't mark any you probably got a really high score, and were prepared for difficult questions.

My idea of hard questions when I took audit had to do with services outside of an audit and questions that are very specific. So specific, the only way I would know the answer is if I memorized 1 sentence out of a whole book.

My first testlet resembled WTB, the rest didnt.

    Bec-76 (7/14)
    Aud-81 (8/14)
    Reg-82 (7/15)
    Far- 82 (10/15)

Moral of the story, don't do your CPA while working in Big 4 Public Accounting.

Thanks for the responses. I can detect hard questions as they are generally longer and more math intensive, but more importantly, tricky or terribly specific. I guess my search for someone who has gotten both hard testlets and failed isn't successful, which is great news. By the way, to those who got easy testlets, on FAR I got the easiest testlet known to man and I did great. Stay calm and knock them all out!

I use to think that you could tell the difference until I looked at 2014 AICPA released questions and learned otherwise. Here is a BEC question that I would consider pretty easy but AICPA had catergorized as a “difficult” question. Also some of the calculation questions that they have categorized as “medium” I thought were difficult. There are many examples of this so your view of the level of difficulty is totally subjective.

For a fixed-price proposal, the deliverables due on the contract are not clearly defined. As a result, the potential contractor should:

    a. Submit the bid because the client's price seems more than adequate to meet the contract requirements.

    b. Modify the terms to account for unforeseen difficulties that may arise.

    c. Build in a cost escalator to adjust for materials price increases during the execution of the contract.

    d. Wait to bid until the deliverables are clearly defined.

    Answer is d.

@Bcarmi, I would agree as well. The complexity of the calculations is the only true way to assess difficulty in my opinion.

I'll find out on Monday, because I'm waiting on AUD – and I'm 99.99% sure my testlets went medium-hard-hard.

    BEC - 72, 82! ✓
    FAR - 80! ✓
    AUD - 70, 92! ✓
    REG - 74, 78! ✓

I'm wondering this as well since my testlets went medium hard hard. I did okay not great on the sims getting most of the points on five of them so I am getting a bit nervous. The first testlet was a breeze, and then on the next two it took me over 40 minutes as I marked like 10-12 on each testlet.
