How detailed can the exam get in regards to financial ratios?

If you use Becker, I am referencing the ratios found in B6. I found the HW questions about PEG to be harder than it appears in the book.

I don’t know how I am going to memorize all the formulas in this section. My brain doesn’t work like that =P

From your experiences, how does the exam test the financial management stuff?

You could get a MCQ or two that asks you to calculate a random ratio or…. you could see nothing at all.

    FAR - Passed (82)
    BEC - Passed (76)
    AUD - Passed (89)
    REG - Passed! (81)

I am just worried about the calculations that are various steps, but from my previous experiences, the test doesn't normally go into complicated calculations. Hopefully BEC follows suit.

My first Pass was with BEC. I really had to learn all those ratios.

For FAR and AUD, all those financial ratios that I learned in BEC came flooding back and was a big help.

Well, I guess they will probably help you in FAR also! I have taken FAR and AUD and failed both, although not solely due to ratios! lol. I just don't have the ability to memorize that many ratios! The weird thing is that I love calculations and formulas, but that doesn't translate to memorization.

The way I learn the formulas is that I write down the formula the question is asking before working it. You do it enough times you'll soon memorize it.

Learning the ins and outs of the different ratios can help you vastly throughout the exams. I would really practice them each chance you get through the MCQs and try to learn the impacts of each element on the ratio. There can always be questions that give you parts of several ratios that you have to put together to solve a separate ratio. The ratios can be intimidating but give them their proper attention and it can really pay off on exam day. Also, when I studied ratios in FAR/AUD/BEC I made it a point to not just try to “memorize” the actual formula but learn why and how it can be used which I felt really broadened my understanding on the subjects.

I don't have Becker so I don't know specifically, but I can say this:

    1) flash cards are a must

    2) the names often relates to the denominator (AR turnover ratio: AR is the denominator) if that helps you remember.

    Good luck!

Good tip, coloradorit! That will help me remember some of them, as that is one of the issues I have, which order the go in.
