I need help and advice about how to prepare BEC. I just found out I only got 69 in the exam. It turned out the third one wasn’t the charm. I am feeling super down and stupid now. I tried really hard, and I thought I did good enough to pass. However, it still wasn’t.

I used Wiley test bank & Becker final review. I spent almost 8 hours everyday and kept studying for half month at last time. Do I need to change my study materials? Or do I need to spend longer time on the exam?

I would try Gleim. Also 2 weeks is rather low, why not 3 months?

Also, I like the EWS winner's advice: make your own notes (8-10 pages per chapter), and study/memorize off of those.

@lz221476 don't feel bad… i failed audit 3 times. I took BEC once, and I feel like the areas being tested are somewhat really similar to the Wiley test bank. I mean, of course the questions are not the same, but when you study through WTB, make sure you turn 1 question into 4 learning experience. That's the one thing I would really recommend.

Even though I didn't pass BEC, I feel like I will pass it the next time, because I knew I didn't study hard enough when I was doing WTB questions.

About 80 hours is recommended for BEC, however I am finding that I need to study almost twice as much as the recommended amount to feel comfortable with the material. The exam is between you and the AICPA. It is not a social event between you and your friends.

And unless your friends are grading your exam, I would not take study advice or comparisons from them.

It is a serious exam, so take it seriously and professionally.

@Iz, I passed BEC on my 4th try. To me, it was the hardest part. Don't feel bad because your other friends passed on the first attempt, they are them and you are you. Just because someone passes on their first try doesn't necessarily mean they are smarter than you or that they are going to be more successful than you in your career. I know it doesn't feel good to tell people you didn't pass, but it would feel a whole lot worse to give up. Just keep going, you'll beat this thing eventually. It takes longer for some people, doesn't mean you're better or worse, it just means it took longer.

@ lz221476 You only prepared for it for two weeks, so don't be hard on yourself. One thing that I learned from studying 8 hour days is that the last two hours aren't as productive as the first 6 hours. So while those last two hours are more productive than not studying; your 80 hours of studying is probably not as effective as a person who spends 4 hours a day of studying for twice as many days.

I think a lot of people new to these exams, like myself, spend way to much time with their heads in the book. I failed BEC 6 years ago, because I spent 3 weeks on the concepts and only one week on multiple choice questions. It's very important to master the information in the format in which you will be tested. You would of passed if you gave yourself three weeks and the extra week was filled with doing multiple choice questions.

i passed FAR only after studying 100-150 hours for it, but for BEC i needed 300 hours to pass
