BEC Torture

BEC was draining today. The first testlet did not seem medium as they say. Very computational and time consuming. Not overly hard, but time consuming… I cannot tell if the second testlet was harder because it was more conceptual which is my strong suit.

Then the SIMS… The first one had to be pretest and if it wasn’t, I failed. That stupid SIM pissed me off so hard and nearly gave me a stroke during the exam. I’d expect a professor in that subject to be able to work through a sim like that in no less than 45 minutes… Felt like I was reading 5 different short stories at once and had very twisted numbers to work with. That sucker drained my time which I’m sure is what it was intended for… Most of the answers were guesswork. Literally, pick a sequence of random numbers and enter for the CPA gods to judge… 🙁 “What’s that drop down say with 8 answers? I don’t know, but that looks good…”

The rest of the sims weren’t too bad and the writing portion was fairly easy. Does anyone know if they expect lengthy WC’s? Mine were short, not too short. Strictly to the point. Pretty sure I knew which was pretest but you just never know… This BEC was a BEAST compared to the BEC I took in 2015. BEC isn’t to be taken lightly. And unfortunately found myself over studied for a bunch of stuff I never saw, and got reamed where the sun doesn’t shine elsewhere.

Ugh this doesn't make me feel good. I take BEC in one day and do not feel prepared. Do you have any last minute advice for me?

Also, I think the WC are graded based on spelling an grammatical errors as well as the keywords you use.

Don't let my experience discourage you. You could have an entirely different experience. One day out there isn't much you can do. I studied for 90 hours and felt beat up. I also felt beat up with FAR back in 2015 and thought I failed but I passed. These exams suck, plain and simple. You want advice? When you get to SIMs, if you see a long crazy convoluted one, work on the other and then manage the time spent when you circle back to the turd SIM. DO NOT waste too much time on it like I did… Time vampire that damned SIM…

Thanks! I'll remember not to take too much time. And I'm sure your crazy SIM was a pretest and you did well! I'm more nervous about the mcq than the sims for some reason. The BEC mcq always get me.

I have to agree with you and i did not take BEC lightly. I used Becker and easily spent over 100hrs studying for BEC. Trending at least 80% on progress tests and scored an avg of 75% on all three mock exams (and there's a +20% becker bump they said). I felt prepared and confident going in. The first testlet was computational and took me about 50 mins. The second testlet did not get easier… took me another 40~50 mins. I had to rush through my sims (thankfully they weren't that bad) and i ended up spending the last hour on WCs. I walked out feeling defeated and felt it was almost as difficult as FAR. Definitely not easy 🙁

This post makes me super nervous since I am taking BEC this Friday. Are the formulas given in the SIMS? I remember when I took AUD, they provided formulas in SIMS, just curious about BEC!
