Okay, I wanted to post this in order to help other people sleep better at night after taking the BEC exam. I just recently passed the BEC with a short amount of time to prepare. Also I left 2 of the 3 Written Communication parts blank. This scared me the most. I knew I did well enough on multiple choice to pass while taking it, but I got complacent and did not finish the WC. If this happens to you, DONT FEAR, you can still pass. I researched for days, looking for people who had passed with leaving the WC blank but couldn’t find anything. So I wanted to share to let others know it is possible and not to freak.
My experience: I took FAR Feb 18, 2014 and then turned around and crammed for BEC and took it Feb 28, 2014. I used Becker as well as Ninja Notes. I used the Ninja Notes for a supplemental review and I added info to it when reviewing through the Becker chapters. Now I realize not everyone will have Becker and some people taking the exam cannot dedicate 6 hours plus a day studying the material. I probably spent 60 hours (in 7-8 days) total studying for BEC. Went through all the Becker videos first. Then went through the NINJA notes and wrote notes I had from Becker on the Ninja Notes.
Most important stage: Multiple Choice questions. Obviously on BEC this is the most important part because it is 85%. When studying, I cut it close and started multiple choice questions two days before the exam; however, I spent 10 hours plus each day I did MC. I also wrote down every question I got wrong (used a whole 70 page spiral for this part), then I went back to the sections I did the worst on and reworked them. I also reviewed every page I wrote down.
WC: For this part I had heard it is a walk in the park. And it probably really is, however, I am terrible at BSing. I spent 30 minutes just trying to figure out the logical answers for the questions. Looking back on it, I wish I would have just wrote stuff down to ensure some points. I was so scared after the test because I left 2 of the 3 WC blank. My advice would be to write something down for each one and then go back and try to make it more accurate and grammatically correct.
Anyway I am not writing this post to brag that I passed BEC in such a short time without answering all of the WC. I just want people to be able to sleep easier after taking it. Also there are so many posts that freak people out for this test. Yes, it can be tricky and you may see stuff you have never heard of, but just do not over think it. Most likely you can figure out the answer by process of elimination (you can at least narrow it down to 2).
Last tip: A lot of people like to get a good night sleep before the exam…if you are like me and are used to staying up late and waking up early for college exams, I would continue that strategy. The night of the BEC exam I went to bed at 2 am and woke up at 4:30 am. Now I know this might not work for some people but if you get a good night sleep two nights before, your body and mind should be ok from lack of sleep before the test. Reviewing through all the material (even if super fast) right before heading to the testing center is a MUST. I find it helps me tremendously.
Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck to everyone taking BEC and all other parts of the CPA in the future.
