Hi Everyone,
I'm taking BEC on 12/9 and need some advice and tips you guys can give me based on your past experiences. it seems like BEC is random when it comes to the questions asked, so my question is what topics should I be prepared for?. secondly, should I memorize formulas?. lastly, should I just drill Ninja MCQ in the review process?.
Best,
JelaniOctober 20, 2016 at 2:22 am #1290276C / XParticipantJust like REG I can say I honestly have no idea if I passed or failed and it could honestly go both ways. Test 1 and 2 didn't have that many flagged questions (5-7) but the ones that I did flag it was more likely that I didn't know the answer. Teslet 3 killed me, and I flagged almost half.
I felt like all the questions had an even mix of the material in Roger/Ninja but a lot of them had to with stuff once again related to the material but not actually in the material I studied, if that makes sense.
The only good thing I can say was there were very few questions that required long computations. I think I did okay on the MCQ and okay on the TBS so as long as I did okay enough I passed, but since I don't find out until 15 days later I don't want to worry about it too much like I did with REG and cut into my AUD study time. So on to the next one I guess.
October 20, 2016 at 6:35 am #1290283Me!ParticipantSitting for BEC this morning, after reading everyone's exam experiences I am nervous! Took BEC last year and received a 68, passed AUD in the interim and hoping for a pass! Good luck to everyone!
October 20, 2016 at 1:22 pm #1290502Me!ParticipantBEC retake this morning. First of all not as difficult as I was expecting. 1st testlet was probably average difficulty, nothing surprising or not seen. I think sometimes the question wording was tricky kinda like audit questions. 2nd testlet somewhat more diffcult than 1st testlet. 3rd testlet seemed about the same as 2nd testlet. Seemed to cover all areas equally. WC: not overly difficult but seemed to be weird topics. Well I know from experience, ya never know until score release! Hoping for a 75 on November 4th!
October 21, 2016 at 1:14 am #1303317mricci1989ParticipantSat this morning. I thought the material was very evenly distributed. This is my last exam and out of the four this is the first one where I could really tell the difference between testlets. Went Medium Hard Hard. I felt like the IT stuff is just crazy random. I didn't really study the IT stuff assuming it wouldn't help. It wouldn't have helped.
Fingers crossed. Praying this it the end of the journey for me. This has been a real challenge.

A lot of COSO and ERM material, and an average number of calculations. Last window I did not get to memorize many of the formulas and probably that was my killer. This time I took my time and rewrote many of them multiple times. Hope to see a passing grade soon. In the meantime will jump into REG right away. WC part had weird topics, but believe me Ninja MCQ prepared me for it. Thank you Jeff!
Good luck to all BEC takers.

I know they can be exhausting, I made around 1100 in 3 weeks, tough because I work FT and single mom, but I really don't want to take this beast again. At the beginning, I was doing the MCQ to learn from them, not only to get the perfect score. Explanations are great!
I went through about 10 simulations, remember to answer the probe questions as they help to understand the concepts better. My last week, I was selecting questions only from my weakest topics,to enforce those areas.
Best luck!
October 24, 2016 at 10:44 pm #1305298JJ LeezaParticipantHello Everyone ..Took BEC on Saturday. Was nervous in the beginning – my first testlet went smooth but to my surprise, 2nd and 3rd ones were also not very hard. So I wonder if this is a bad sign 🙁 I did get some calculations. Make sure you guys know your formulas because I forgot one of the formula and saw few questions on it. IT & COSO & COST accounting ruled my exam. WC was fairly easy but one was way off the topics in BEC that I hope is a pretest one. Anyways planning to take REG next. Will keep you guyz posted if I pass.
GOOD LUCK everyone!

October 25, 2016 at 8:09 pm #1305918AnonymousInactive@JJ Leeza, were you prepared well before going into the exam? give us some details like your avg score vs trend score vs final exam score etc… Difficulty is subjective but… in my experience, if I did well, I always ended up with a testlet having more difficult questions than the moderate. I don't want to be an axx but based on the limited information you provided, I say you are in the bubble.
October 27, 2016 at 8:00 pm #1307728strugglerParticipant@JJ Leeza sounds like you rocked it!
I took BEC this morning. Ugh this is a grueling process. My 1st testlet, I felt confident. The 2nd testlet, I flagged a couple and had to make guesstimates to not burn too much time. I ran late on the allotted 40 mins I had planned to give myself for each testlet. Then there was testlet 3. My brain was ready to checkout and the clock was ticking so I guessed on a few more. By the time I was faced with the WCs, my brain was no longer cooperating, and I only had 38 mins on the clock. The last time I took BEC, I was confident in my WCs, and scored accordingly on that section. Not excited about waiting until Nov. 22nd, or to get my score. I am thankful for this forum because the struggle is way too real and indescribable! Looking forward to seeing the Nov 4th “I passed BEC” thread!
October 27, 2016 at 8:10 pm #1307736NeedsA75ParticipantThose who took BEC, do you think its worth it to learn the overhead variances like the back of my hand? Specifically, knowing all the variances by formula method AND tabular method?
October 31, 2016 at 10:28 pm #1309718KaliKingzParticipantI just left the testing center… I felt really confident going into the test, but then I launched the exam, and was I not expecting the type of questions I saw on the first testlet. The second testlet had more calculations then the first (does this mean that this testlet was harder?) the third testlet was similar to the second. I felt like i knew a lot of what was on testlet 2&3, but can never tell if they are med or hard. The WC were topics that I studied. Anyhow, here's hoping for a 75!
