Thanks for the input @NeedsA75. I hope you passed!
It's definitely random. I'm sure repetition in the MCQs will improve my outlook. As I was watching the videos during the cost accounting portion, I repeatedly sighed thinking I will be wrecked by the SIMs… then I remembered we don't have them on this one! That was uplifting in itself hah.
December 13, 2016 at 12:38 pm #1383387tygolferParticipantI didn't use salutations. I also did not practice any Written Communications questions. I looked at a few examples online and I honestly think they care more about the structure of your explanation, whether you use certain key words, and grammar.
December 13, 2016 at 1:11 pm #1383419CPAgalParticipantHey @So Far So Good I was under the impression that I was supposed to enter Sincerely CPA. And yeah, I thought the noise cancelling headphones would have been helpful. But I guess it wasn't
December 13, 2016 at 1:19 pm #1387212CPAgalParticipant@Needsa75 I didn't put anything after my memo so womp. Also, because I ran out of time, I only used the key words in the WC question or scenario rather.
December 13, 2016 at 1:29 pm #1390616NeedsA75Participantwhat do you mean “you only used the key words in the WC question” ? Did you type a complete response or were you literally just retyping parts of the scenario?
December 13, 2016 at 1:49 pm #1390634CPAgalParticipant@Tyler I see you passed without salutations so I can hold on to a little bit of hope.
December 13, 2016 at 1:53 pm #1390640NeedsA75ParticipantMy friend didn't use salutations and passed with a score in the 80's. I'm pretty sure you don't need to include them. Becker wouldn't be for shit if they didn't mention that at all..
December 13, 2016 at 1:59 pm #1390644cpaMD86ParticipantThe score release can't get here any sooner…
The past few days I've just been trying to recall as many questions as I can to check them, lol. Can't remember many honestly.
I'm prepared for either a pass or fail, but obviously would prefer the 75+. Taking the rest of the week of before starting anything again….would be nice to start REG though! Come on BEC, PASS!FAR: 9/3
December 13, 2016 at 3:04 pm #1390692Ne’OParticipantRight there with you cpaMD86.
Wiley didn't say diddly, and Becker (better for that part of the exam) didn't say anything about signoff with the memos, but I've professionally been doing it for 13+ years and decided to add it for two of them. I ran out of time on the 3rd one with 5 seconds left and said _frac_it_ pushing ‘Submit'.
REG is up next, and I'll be a much happier camper if I passed BEC. Otherwise- taking BEC again will cut into study time.
If you passed BEC, at least you have a shot at being done before the hated changes next April. I'll be taking FAR then and waiting- what, 3.5 months to find out my score. This just drags out,
and AICPA is becoming a 4 letter word in my mind.Ne'O

December 13, 2016 at 3:05 pm #1390694CPAgalParticipantHey @NeedsA75 I used complete sentences the problem is I could have elaborated more on the topic if I had more time. So I just pulled a move that I saw Roger do which was be repetitive. Basically, I probably messed up on the last testlet.
December 13, 2016 at 4:01 pm #1390727star7ParticipantI sat for BEC on Saturday and had the same experience as a lot of you…like if I took the wrong exam. I thought I knew COSO, but the questions I saw on the exam were nothing like the ones I studied. The entire thing was awful. Pretty depressing. This is my second take on BEC, scored a 60 the first time around. Tests were completely different. The exam I got a 60 on (didn't read two chapters), had questions that seemed reasonable and “doable,” but not this last one. Even the WC seemed reasonable, was “comparable,” but again, this last exam was foreign.
Praying for a passing score on Friday, want to be half way through this crazy journey. I seriously believe I failed (didn't read 1 chapter) so I didn't stop studying for BEC, still going thru the material rn. Will either regret it on Friday or be glad I didn't lose a week of studying and retake it again on Jan.

AUD: MAR 2016December 13, 2016 at 4:14 pm #1390746So FAR So GoodParticipantJust thought of another reason why I feel so uncomfortable with my performance on this section. For each of the prior three exams, I finished WAY ahead of time. I'm talking somewhere between 2-2.5 hours for FAR, 2.5 hours for AUD, and 2 hours for REG. For BEC? I was frantically typing with 30 seconds to go. It really was a “you know it or you don't” type of experience.
Come on, Friday … get here, already!

To be fair though, I got caught up with an extremely wordy 3rd testlet that caused me to fall about 10 minutes behind schedule. Still feel fairly confident on what I put down in the WC. If I fail it was because of my performance on the MC
December 13, 2016 at 4:32 pm #1390772star7ParticipantGood luck to everyone waiting for scores this Friday!! I'm actually looking forward to studying AUD or maybe it's because that means I would have passed BEC haha
Oh how I want to be done with BEC, pretty much want to be done with this whole journey.Moving forward, I'm keeping my exam dates a secret. My friend asked me how it went and I told her that I'm sure I failed. She advised me to take a weekend crash course lol. I wish it was that easy.

My testlets never got hard, I had mainly one sentence, short conceptuals and several easy calculations. I flagged 3 questions on each testlet. It was ridiculous how easy some questions were. But I guess after Ninja MCQs it just seemed easy. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of “you know it or you don’t” questions, so don’t overlook definitions and concepts. Another advise is to use T accounts for solving for amounts when you are given beginning and ending balances, or any in/out activity. Very easy and don’t have to guess with + or – signs.
The memos were ok, just some BEC stuff I read about but didn’t pay too much attention to. And English is not my native language. I mainly copied/pasted all 3 memos from the scenario they gave you into the intro, the body with some sprinkled action words and phrases and the closing paragraph (in one instance I copied and pasted almost everything into my memo). My advise would be to use a set template for memos. Write the intro and conclusion paragraphs first, and then re-use it in all 3 memos.
And manage your time. I wrote down on the paper 2:20; 1:40; 1:00 to know when to move on to the next testlet. I had around 50 min going into a writing portion and submitted it with 4 min left.REG - 75!!!
