BEC Exam Experience

Well my BEC experience was different than expected.

First testlet was very doable, I felt very confident with all of my answers except one, where I took a total shot in the dark.

Second testlet was noticeably harder, which is a good sign. But it was so much harder that I do not feel confident that I did well on it. Hopefully I scored well enough on the other four testlets!

The sims were very fair, I felt pretty good about them all and I think if you study the entire material provided to you, you would do well on them. One of them took a solid 30 minutes because I knew how to do it but it took a long time to solve/analyze.

Written portion was also completely manageable.

Overall, I feel decent about the exam. I could see failing but I can also see passing. Let’s pray for a pass so I never have to study for this miserable test again!

@Smith, Each exam is different so be sure to study everything your study material has, but these are the things that definitely stuck out for me.

    @reallytired Thanks!!!!
I'm so pissed with chapter 2, still getting so many MCQ wrong. I will try to go back to it before the 8th. Starting today the review of Chap 4 (variance analysis). Thanks Again and good luck!

Careful with exam disclosure rules. I don't know if this is in violation maybe @jeff and he can edit if necessary.

    FAR- 74, 78 (10/15)
    BEC- 73
    REG- 65, 88 (05/16)
    AUD- 7/16

@reallytired how much time did you allocate for MCQ/sims/WC? Congrats on getting through your last exam!

@reallytired Congrats on finishing, best of luck I hope you pass. How long did you study for BEC? 7 weeks doable while working FT?

@BBHYX For BEC I allocated 40 to 45 minutes for each MCQ testlet and that gave me enough time for the rest

@Smith, Oh god B2 is a nightmare! I did not do well with that chapter at all, but just fight through it and you should be ok! I also didn't even understand variances until Sunday night, so I feel your pain!

@Reema, there are four sims and three written communication memos!

@BBHYX, I originally said I wanted 1 hr for the first mcq testlet, 1 hr for the second mcq testlet, 1 hr for the four sims, and 1 hr for the three WC. It turned out being 45 minutes per mcq testlet, 1.5 hrs total for the sims, and 40 minutes for WC. I left with 20 minutes remaining. I recommend trying to give a little more time for sims, they were doable but definitely time consuming.

@Spaztic, Yes I think 7 is totally doable full time. I did 5 weeks while doing full time and wish I had one extra week to review, so 7 should be perfect!

    Birdman-

What was said on here SO FAR is no where near any violation of disclosure rules. I suggest you take a bunch of XANAX and calm down.

    Really Tired-

congrats and I would say we got the same exam ( I took AUG 22) based on your thoughts but mine was not so IT heavy and my second testlet was not too difficult but definitely a step up from my 1st testlet . SIMS were manageable but one took forever, and WC were almost too easy.

my breakdown was following for time

    Testlet 1- 1 hour
    Testlet 2 – 1 hour
    Testlet 3- SIMS- 30 mins
    Testlet 4- SIMS 45 MINS
    Testlet 5- WC 45 MINS.

Took my time on everything. reviewed stuff and had about min left on clock. I skipped the 15 min break – did not want to break rythym

@reallytired Understandable and you are probably right. The potential issue I can see is that the AICPA guidelines are just that- guidelines. They aren't specific to any exam. What you have said is specific to yours. Not sure if that distinction is meaningful, but I'm just trying to look out.

@shawn – Unlike some people I don't need medication to behave reasonably. The implication that I'm anxious or nervous over what was said in the OP is laughable, I just err on the side of caution when it comes to the AICPA's vague rules about “disclosure”

    FAR- 74, 78 (10/15)
    BEC- 73
    REG- 65, 88 (05/16)
    AUD- 7/16

@birdman93 – I suggest you read the blueprints. Specifically the one that outlines, for each exam, what content is covered and at what percentage. https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ExaminationContent/DownloadableDocuments/cpa-exam-blueprints-effective-20170401.pdf
