Hey guys,

I took BEC back in October after 2.5 weeks of studying. Testlets were Medium / HARD / Easy-Medium. I didn’t have a lot of time to finish all three essays. I ended up having about 20 minutes left and started to just pound out the essays. I left the test thinking I there was no chance I’d pass at all, however, after my friend told me if changes in difficulty of testlets is generally a good sign, I had a sigh of relief.

My scores haven’t released yet and i’m in California. I guess it’s better than getting the scores an not passing, however, now that I am having my essays manually graded, I feel like there’s no chance in passing based on my performance on the essays.

Has anyone been in the BEC bubble and felt like their essays were terrible but passed?

I know someone understands that essay wasn't his strength so he spent like 15 minutes studying for essays and the rest of the one month focus on M/C. He did poorly on the essay but good on the M/C. He passed with a few points higher than the borderline score.

I just wanted to update this post in case someone comes across it in the future. I ended up getting a 78. Totally unexpected.

I studied BEC for under a month (Took REG in October and BEC in early November) I work full time and have a 5yr old son. So basically study time was one hour in the morning, one at lunch and maybe a couple hours at night. Test preparation is different for everyone. I do not read books, I just did the lectures for the concepts (which I think is key to pass the CPA exam one has to know the basic concepts) and in the final week hit the MCQs hard and when I got an answer wrong, I tried to figure out why. Now I only looked at the requirements for the WC the day before I took the test. Now english is a second language for me, I do not think one has to write a textbook type essay, but all I had was 3 paragraphs on all 3 questions. Good thing for me, the topics were on stuff I was familiar with. I did however ended up in the bubble and I think that the fact that I knew what to talk about might have been favorable to me through a human grader's eyes because I feel that the computers only look at grammar and key words and if my essay had grammatical errors I still knew what I was talking about hence the score I got. I got a 77 out of the bubble. I consider myself lucky.
