March 31, 2017 at 4:05 pm #1526322shawn in VAParticipantregrettably yes. After 2 74's in a row. talk about devastating. I cannot stomach another 74. I might just throw in the towel if that happens. I have been having health issues (anxiety and depression) shortly after the score release on Mar 21.
used roger the 1st two times and got 74s . I am bypassing Roger this time and using Ninja Book and Ninja MCQ. The Ninja MCQs are much more difficult than than Roger MCQ so I am hopeful.
What sims are people using? roger has a few – I checked.
March 31, 2017 at 6:15 pm #1526385TncincyParticipantBless you Shawn, You'll pass this round….study everything and do those mcq's non-stop. You got this….. 🙂
It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to passMarch 31, 2017 at 7:15 pm #1526413mooseonlooseParticipant@shawn I am kind of on the same boat. I used becker and received a 67 and then used ninja and received a 73. I got wrong 2 of the questions wrong that were word for word from becker. I usually skip the book and lectures and just hammer MC, but this time I actually listen to lectures, take notes, and read the books here and there if required. I don't focus too much on Sims because of the uncertainty.
74s back to back is terrible, but next score release I am sure you will do well. I also have anxiety, it really sucks.
When are you taking your exam exactly? I am taking mine on April 10th, I am curious to know how the sims will play, its really making me nervous.
April 1, 2017 at 1:08 pm #1526716shawn in VAParticipantTncincy-
thank you for the kind words.Mooseonloose-
Yes your right we kind of are in the same boat 🙂 That is frustrating you missed 2 questions on the exam that were identical to Becker. I have never had a question word for word on the exam from Roger.I've decided to take the exam at very end of April or May 1. I will usually come home from work around 9pm (I am in public acct and its tax time) and usually study 10-12A. But lately my problem since the score release on Mar 21 where I got a 74 (2nd time) is I am very depressed and say to myself what is the point I will just get another 74, and just go to bed early which I never did before. I was usually a night owl and stayed up til at least midnight now been going to bed at 10PM.
really been hard to shake this off since about mar 22. I have 2 kids and $250 is a lot of money to retake the exam. If anyone have suggestions I like to hear . Not how to study but how to overcome these emotions.
April 1, 2017 at 1:17 pm #1526718shawn in VAParticipantbetween the review courses and the exam fees I am at least $5,000 in the hole. and only passed one stinking part of four parts. In a perfect world it should be about $1,000 in exam fees if you pass the first time and $2,000 for a review course (average) so $3,000 total spent. I am almost double that number and passed 1 part. I have to use a credit card every time b/c I don't have the money so I just get more and more in debt. If I was passing, it would be okay, but failing is another story
April 1, 2017 at 1:23 pm #1526722shawn in VAParticipantI am at a real crossroads here. I am a senior with a few years experience in total and am eligible for manager but I have to pass the CPA to get the manager promotion.
So I can keep going at it until I pass, or just say forget it and make 80,000$ for the rest of my life indexed for 3% COL increase (maybe).
I want to keep going but so hard to find the will power at times
April 1, 2017 at 6:34 pm #1526907mooseonlooseParticipantMan, I feel you. I haven't even passed one part lol. I spent way too much so far, I took audit and came out thinking I probably passed, but ended up getting a 68 smh. I would be happy with 80k lol I make 43k right now. But don't worry August will be our lucky month, we will both but section behind us! Even if I fail 100 times I will not give up.
April 1, 2017 at 9:28 pm #1526962WannafreeParticipantShawn you passed REG and most of the candidates here agree that REG is toughest ( for some FAR is toughest ) so you should pass CPA without problem. Now coming to BEC you are getting 74 which is heart wrenching as I am still sobbing for getting 68 in FAR and it's haunting oh I wish I could have solved that SIM etc etc so I can understand your pain.
BEC I passed in third attempt but in third attempt I understood BEC very well and volunteering if I can help you on BEC. Can you please tell where do you feel you get tripped e.g. Cost accounting ,CG ,Memo etc ?In my case I was taking more time in MCQ ( same happened in FAR )and left with 20 minutes for memos and failed at 70 and 72.I understood that I should do MCQ faster and save enough time (45 minutes ) for memos , somehow I got 40 minutes for memos and I passed.I am trying to know if I can help because 3 attempts taught me good lessons on BEC.April 2, 2017 at 9:15 pm #1527363shawn in VAParticipantI want 2B Free-
you are only 1 away! from passing all parts. When are you taking FAR next?
On my last BEC report I got 74. I got comparable in all topics, except weaker in IT and weaker in strategic planning. Overall– On the WC I got weaker, and MCQ I got comparable. There were SOOOO many IT questions on the exam, and they were all so foreign I have never seen them in Roger. I did not see them in Wiley test bank either. I was surprised I got weaker on WC. I only left 25 minutes on both attempts for WC and oddly that is enough time to write an intro, middle , and end. Can a candidate pass BEC with weaker in WC? I am not sure. I am just nervous about the SIMS coming up in Q2 I think there is 4 of them.
I am just going to read and write the ninja notes and do lots of NINJA MCQ this time and hopefully that will be enough. The overhead variances are challenging but I have been lucky and they never showed up on an exam
April 2, 2017 at 9:53 pm #1527388AnonymousInactiveApril 3, 2017 at 1:08 pm #1527676WannafreeParticipant@Shawn ,I see you are weaker (as per score report ) in WC and that's good ,it means easy fixing.15 marks is bonus in BEC,LOL yeah I failed twice BEC because I didn't know.
Copy the memo format from this forum and memorize it or practice it.Rewrite each lines of the question in one paragraph ( basically keeping the key words ) and write one more paragraph based on common sense and hints from questions.Earlier I was trying to write memo like Becker's model memo.English is my second language still I got at least 10.Give 40 minutes for memo so that you can put more meat.
Regarding variances : I have written a detailed explanation for variances in another post, let me search it .I expect 1 question of SIM on Variances and one on Variable costing.Easier than Memo.
IT : Don't worry t master IT , I have read Becker's very well but still I got 1-2 MCQs wrong due to their tricky wordings but still passed.Try to think like CFO and find out what in IT you should know as a CFO or Audit guy.Do google key words include Cyber security , outsourcing ,Backup and disaster recovery,Virus and anti virus ,hacking, encryption , LAN WAN ,HTTP/HTTPS,Network.
IP address and domain name,Data archiving.Validation.Deployment.Based on my three attempt I can say they ask very common words of IT like we all know trojan virus or backup ( hot and cold backup ).Don't try to be master of IT chapter as even spending too much time they may ask what is 512 bits encryption and you would scratching heads. It is better you get low hanging fruits from economics.
One more suggestion which I give to everybody who got 70 and above , you know the subject and you just need optimization.you may ask specific question and I would be glad to help you to pass this hump called BEC.I am preparing for FAR and basically practicing long FAR questions using Laminated sheet , Marker pen and Calculator.Right now I am spending 1.30 minutes average ( earlier 1.45 ) and trying to go up to 1.10 minutes. LOL yeah last time I failed due to time otherwise I knew the subject very well.I will appear in exam latest by 10th May but anytime before that when I achieve 1.10 minutes average for MCQ(calculation one ).
Ninja MCQ is best ( best price ) and you should practice 50 questions daily.I love Ninja MCQ even though currently doing Gleim and freeCPAreview as currently doing topic wise test. Latter will jump to Ninja.April 3, 2017 at 1:55 pm #1527708AnonymousParticipantNinja MCQ definitely hit me with some really good IT questions that I didn't see in Roger– not because they weren't there, but because I chose to go strong with Ninja's MCQ. I learned SO much by working the IT problems, so that's a really good option.
I'm tired of operating in fear and mediocrity. It's time to try. It's time to do. It's time to go.
April 3, 2017 at 10:30 pm #1528000emackCPAParticipantI am taking it at the beginning of May and just as curious as you from anyone that has taken it. I know the exam material is not changing but I am curious if the MC get harder in the second testlet or not based on your answers. If anyone has sat for BEC this quarter, please any experience of what you can say would be appreciated!.
Back to back 70+ failing scores of BEC :/
