Anyone notice the curve for BEC wasn't in favor of the candidate this window?

Did anyone else notice that the Curve for BEC seemed to be not in favor of the Candidate for this testing Window? Based on the difficulty of the questions that I received, and how confidently I answered them, I was sure to get at least an 85-90. However I only received a 79. Previously, I passed BEC with an 82 with easier questions, and a much lower test taker’s confidence level.

I am thankful to have passed this time, and acknowledge that a 75 is just as good as a 95.

Anyone else have thoughts on the BEC Curve this Quarter?

Actually, I was not confident in my performance at all but passed (barely). I thought the curve must have worked in my favor. However, this was my first shot at BEC, so I don't really have a basis of comparison like you do.

Why do I keep reading from AICPA publications that the CPA exam is not curved? Are they just lying to me? Is the AICPA the KGB or something? haha

yea dapper dan man i noticed the same thing. i took bec july 2011 without studying and thought i laid a boiled egg. ended up with a 69., surprisingly. i rode back in for round 2 in october after a weekend cram session, i thought i beasted up on it like nobodies bidness. was expecting something in the 80's, ended up with a 75. i'll take it. but also noticed the same thing as you.

The exam is not “curved” as they do not have a fixed pass rate. However, the weighting of each question is adjusted based on the percentage of candidates that get them right/wrong. This is effectively a loose curve.

Seems like FAR went that way this quarter too. I got my score 12/7 and got a 74, along with a bunch of other people.

I completely agree… I thought my test was fairly straightforward and not too challenging (especially in comparison to other sections) and I received a 71… My 4th and final section and I am 4 points shy of passing the CPA Exam… 🙁 Hopefully my rematch in February is successful.

    REG - 72 (Oct 2011), 74 (May 2012), 80 (July 2012)
    FAR - 77 (Feb 2012)
    AUD - 70 (Aug 2012), 89! (Oct 2012)
    BEC - 71 (Dec 2012), 75!(Feb 2013)

Ah I see…interesting. I guess this is what the score result speaks too when it states you either were “weaker”, “comparable”, or “stronger.”

Thank you sir, that definitely clears that up a bit. No wonder this test is such a b***..even the grading scale is complicated.
