Yaeger CPA Review – need help with Auditing

I just started using Yaeger for AUD. I picked Yaeger because I didnt want to have someone to just tell me what to highlight and to underline. I picked Yaeger because the video samples on youtube appeared to seem like they really teach the details. This is something I need because I do not have a working background. The video so far has not had enough details for me to understand the questions.

I am in the second module and have found it very hard to understand topics with out reading the book. The instructor has said dont spend your time reading the book but then when he goes over he MC questions he quickly tells you the answer with the same reason as the book gives and with out reading he book you would not even know what the question is asking.

Has anyone used this program yet? I need to know a proper approach. I dont want to read the complete book if I dont need to. But at the same time I want to understand the material enough to be able to answer the questions.

They also say on thier website to not focus on the multiple questions too much. This goes against all the other study programs that say to get used to answering the same question asked a different way and you will succeed on the test.

I have heard many people talk good about Yaeger. (even 2 guys at the local college that used Becker first for FAR and failed and passed with Yaeger)

I dont want to be negative but I just cant understand the Yaeger method of learning yet.

Please someone give me some advice on how to use Yaeger.

Please keep in mind that many of these instructors took these exams loooong time ago and are not aware of what type of questions appear on the exams now. So, while their advice about not doing a lot of questions was done in good faith, they are wrong.

And also, I don't recall Gary Bulmash ever saying that. In fact, he said the opposite in the 2011 course. He recommended that you do as many MCQs as possible. If he's saying the opposite in the 2012 course, then I'm a bit shocked. And if you feel that reading the book is helping you understand the material better, then do it. Just make sure you do all the MCQs on each module after you finish reading it. You need to test yourself and see if what you're reading is really making sense.

I can understand some early frustration with Gary Bulmash. When he does the MC questions, I would stop the video before he gave the answer, and tried to do it myself. You may want to try that. Also, please don't pay any attention to not doing MC questions. The secret to the Audit exam is doing as many questions as you can. Good Luck.

I dont think I ever heard Gary say to not focus on the MC. I read it somewhere last night while researching the program and the proper study approach to use with Yaeger. I am listening to their webcast right now and he actually says to work a lot of MC. So I stand corrected.

But as for him saying not to read the whole book, he has said that many times. I have a used/borrowed copy of the 2011 Becker book. I have found that if I read what they said to highlight and underline it almost follows his out line. He even uses the same TIP PIE…..that Becker uses but the Wiley book does not. The bad part about it is I dont get to keep using the Becker book because its needed by its owner. So that leaves me in the same problem. How do I use Wiley materials with Yaeger videos without reading every page in the book. Besides that what he has talked about in module 2 so far has not followed the book. ( cant speak for the rest of the modules yet).

I really liked Yaeger for Audit and a lot of the things Gary said really stuck, but I felt reading the book did help and tied it all together. When I took FAR, I barely read any of the book. Review courses are there as a guide, but it's up to you to figure out what works best to help you learn the material.

I second what everyone else has said. Do as many multiple choice questions as possible. I never did the other one's in the book that were not assigned (only did the assigned one's) but I did as many from the Wiley online test back as possible after I was done watching the lectures. So the last 2 weeks were nonstop multiple choice questions. I also paused the video and would answer the question before he gave his answer. After I watched the lecture, I went back and read the chapter to add to my notes if something wasn't clear. This method worked for me for AUD and REG. Also I took about 6 weeks to prepare for each section at about 20-25 hours a week studying. Gary is really hard to listen to, at least in my opinion. He is so boring! But if you break it up into 25 minute session it might help you stay focused. 25 minute intense studying, 5 minute break; then repeat. Good luck!

I've probably posted this before, but Gary was my favorite of the Yaeger instructors even if he is not the most exciting to listen to. However, his style of teaching AUD is really great (even if your gut tells you otherwise at first); do exactly what he says and you WILL pass.

I have used both Becker and Yaeger for Audit. In Yaeger he specifically states a few times not to read the book but to read all the mcq answer explanations. Those explanations will give you the same info that is in the text plus some. By doing this you will gain an understanding of why the correct answer is right and why the other choices are wrong. Lots of great information in those explanations. After doing so many of them the theory eventually sinks in.

I also suggest getting the Ninja Notes that Jeff sells here. They are worth the money. They are aligned with the topics in the Wiley book and it is put together in a clear concise format that is easy to read. It also includes the mnemonics such as tip pie godc (or as becker puts it ACDO).
