Can someone help explaining what an “open invoice file” is? Thank you

i have seen this somewhere in my studies at the beginning and need less to say i dont remember the full details ( which is really one google click away) but i believe open invoices are those that keeps growing and the customer is only required to pay the minimum Eg. credit card statements…. the opposite which if my memory serves me correctly is closed invoice… each invoice shows the charges for that month only and payment in full is required or else service gets cut eg. phone bills, cable bills and just abt any pills you need to pay in full
