Hey guys, I just wanted to ask your advice? So I start an Audit job in one of the big 4 in about a month. Entry level. What skills, do you think can I develop during this month that would help me to do well in this job. This is my first office job and any advice would be appreciated.

If you haven't completed an intermediate excel course, find one at your community college, buy a tutorial or get yourself a book. My undergrad required two excel courses and coming in with strong excel skills helped fend off the learning curve.

Be able to successfully perform a vlookup, sumif, turn a data set into a useful pivot table, if function, if/and, left, right, mid is sometimes useful, probably a hundred other goodies that I am forgetting.

Excel is something that you will naturally learn, simply because you will use it on almost a daily basis. It is not something you actively “try” to learn if you know what I mean.

If you want to stand out and get the most you can, make sure you take the steps to know why you are doing what you are doing. Don't just take orders like a dog, but understand the reasons you do what you do (the assignments given to you). By doing this you will learn A LOT more and your teams will be more confident in you, leading to a better outcome overall. The way I see it, you should always be prepared to explain to the partner exactly why you performed testwork a certain way, or why it is necessary in the first place, even though you will pretty much never have to give that explanation. This might not mean much at this moment, but once you are in practice it should clear up.

SQL and database theory; you may not use it there but I'm an auditor and that's all I use(I know some big 4 people are the same so it could lead you to a promotion; this isn't beginner stuff)

BEC has the basics but just watch youtube videos and get books out on it I guess.

I learned on the job, I make 30k now but I've seen job offers at big 4 upwards of 90k I was tempted to apply to for databases and SQL.
