I am starting to study for audit with Becker and the flashcards, but I did not know if I need to supplement with more multiple choice questions? I took BEC this past Saturday and felt like Becker questions did not prepare me AT ALL!! Any advice on what other materials are useful?? I heard the Wiley 2012 test bank has quite a few errors…..

    here's what you do

step 1) dump Becker and get Roger

    step 2) pass

    BEC- 80
    REG- 68, 71, July
    AUD- 61 , 84
    FAR- -- 75 🙂

I heard that if you get Roger, he does all of the studying for you. You just have to show up and take the exam. No effort needed!

Yep Roger is very good for Audit, he loves that section and was an auditor with Big 4. Plus he can keep your attention. I love em and he is funny as hell in a cpa way. I think he went to fast for BEC. Rog is hard to keep up with, but keeps it moving at a nice clip. I may issue him a 1099 for kicks !! just kidding. Even if I fail AUD, it certainly not because of Roger. I think Jeff gets a ton a credit for this site, it's helped me mentally.

@goodluck – You are absolutely fricken ridiculous. You still claim that Becker is awful yet you didn't even watch one lecture. Reading someone's Becker book and doing a couple pass master questions is not using Becker. Everytime you even mention Becker, I am going to point out that you didn't even go through the course. Stop misleading people.

I used Becker, Wiley test bank, and Ninja's for review. I passed all four on my first try in less than 5 months using the study method I described above. Clearly, I did something right. You, on the other hand, have two failing scores and are still grinding away. I'll just let the others decide whose study methods they think will give them the most success.

@minimorty – How many weeks did you study for Auditing? I like your detailed study plan and I'm wondering if I could get it down within 7-8 weeks.

    Thanks.

@GirlAcct – Absolutely. 7-8 weeks is plenty of time. I think I took about 6 – 6.5 weeks for AUD. It's very doable, even with a full time job and a family. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

@Minimorty and @jenuno01 thank you for the helpful and realistic advice! I purchased only the Wiley test bank. Where did you receive the lectures from Wiley or additional materials? Did you purchase all of Wiley in addition to Becker?

I'm not sure that Wiley even has lectures. If you already have the Becker lectures, you wont need more lectures. You'll be good with the test bank.

Ok, thanks @Minimorty. The outline you gave is very helpful in taking the material piece by piece and not get overhwhelmed.

as far as becker, I say seriously drop it and get another review program.

In my case, whether or not I watch the lectures should have zero baring on understanding of the material; the book alone should be good enough. But I found the book to be confusing, convoluted, written extremely poorly, and the passmaster questions to be way too easy (I did every single one of them getting 80% on average correct the first time through). The reason I failed 2 exams is because I relied solely on the becker book and it cost me dearly. Don't make the same mistake, drop becker and get something else

if you decide to stay with becker, then I HIGHLY recommend reading through the wiley book twice and doing all the wiley questions and possibly buying the ninja notes as well to supplement.

p.s. Don't listen to mini either. He/she clearly struggled immensely using the becker material and had to supplement it with a crapload of other programs. This is not the way you want to go through this process.

Everyone learns in different ways which is why Becker works for some people and not for others. Many people don't need an audio or video lecture and would prefer to read through the material. My understanding of Becker is that while you are watching the lectures, they point out important material in the text that you should focus on. Many people swear by Becker. I couldn't see myself forking over the money for it so I didn't buy it. I'm currently using CPA Excel and once I see my REG score I will determine if I need to supplement with Ninja and/or Wiley. I definitely didn't see anything on the exam that was completely foreign to me, though, so I think the review course was adequate. I think additional MCQs and SIMS that I hadn't seen before would be beneficial, though.

You also have to take into consideration what your background is. Do you need to be “taught” the material or do you need a refresher/review of material you know but haven't used in a while? There is a big difference.
