I was going thru audit on Becker, generally breezing by the chapters and MCs (60-80%). I thought I was doing well and grasping the concepts. That is, until I hit Chapter 4 – Audit Evidence.

It’s been a week and I STILL don’t feel that I’ve grasped the concepts well (in light of my poor MC performance). It looks like I may have to re-read the chapter, take notes, etc. Maybe even supplement my studies with Ninja Notes and stuff like that.

What do you all recommend for a struggling CPA candidate?

You need to just keep pushing through the material. Many times I found that a chapter later on helped me to understand an earlier chapter, and I would go back and re-review it. If you tell yourself you can't do something, you won't be able to.

    BEC - 81 (Nov 2011)
    FAR - 87 (May 2012)(Skipped 1st window)
    AUD - 80 (Aug 2012)

AUD is ridiculous. You need to have broad understanding of it all to fully understand any one chapter. I suggest moving on through the rest of the chapters and then come back. NINJA notes will help a lot with getting that broad understanding quickly. Try to keep in mind the entire process of an audit and what the end goal of an audit is.

when you work the problems be sure to read all the answer explanations. Understand why the right answer is right and why the wrong answers are wrong. I found this to be especially helpful in audit because there are a lot of good explanations of the theory in those wrong answers.

I agree – Move on to the other chapters and revisit Audit Evidence later. It's one of the pieces of the puzzle that look like it doesn't fit anywhere until you've completed more of the puzzle.

And if you don't already have the NINJA notes or NINJA Audio for Audit – get them! I could not have passed without the NINJA Audio.

    I passed in 2012!

    BEC - PASSED - I'M DONE!!!
    AUD - PASSED (finally!!)
REG - PASSED (Twice - lost credit first time)
    FAR - PASSED!

Keep moving on even though you might not comprehend all of the concepts. Later chapters may help clear some confusion as well. Work the MCQ and read the answers, that should help. Dont worry if you dont know all the concepts the first time through. I have found that i usually dont pick up on all of the concepts the first time through but when i go back after i am all done and review each chapter, I not only remember some concepts from the first time, but the concepts i didnt get before are clearer the 2nd time around.

Thanks for the advice yall! Okay, I'll move on since I'm finished. When I get back during the review process, I'll be sure to read and study the answers more thoroughly.

I'm leaning towards supplementing with Ninja audio. I appreciate it. 🙂

Just go ahead and spring for either the Ninja audio or notes or both. They are too helpful to not have, imo. They are great with wrapping your head around the big picture because Jeff eliminates all the minutia that can muddy up the topics. Good Luck!

I found my Accounting Information Systems college textbook a great augmenter to my AUD section. A lot of areas that AUD gave the concept, AIS really told me what was going on. If you are very unfamiliar with some of these areas, and your AUD textbooks or the review course don't seem ample, I'd suggest something like that.

In light of your current circumstance, I think what everyone else is saying is great advice. Audit is one big puzzle, as was said, and the pieces don't come together until the end. Good luck.

    AUD - 99
    REG - 88
    BEC - TBD

Do MCQs and understand thoroughly why you answered correctly or incorrectly. Always the best way to power you through a chapter you dont undestand.
