Venting/depressed/etc…

So I have taken REG twice (71, 72). Second time I took it, I studied for a week and skipped all Business Law…didn’t skim over it once. My performance summary said I was stronger overall in MCQ (stronger in everything except comparable and weaker in Business law) and weaker overall in SIMS.

I have taken AUD and failed it with 73.

Obviously, I’m depressed and passing sounds unreal. Yes, many have said I’m so close and I can do it, but let’s not forget…I’m fighting for 75 next time around, not for couple more points.

I’m hoping to take both again this window and leave for almost a month vacation right after. I really don’t want to know my score before I leave, that would crush me and not let me enjoy my vacation AT ALL.

    I have couple questions:

I’m taking AUD in 6 days. I’m using Becker and about to finish up A5. I’ve been doing progress tests, studying note cards and have been getting 90%+ in all of those. I’ve done them so many times, and I don’t feel like I’m remembering the questions because every time I get an answer right, I know exactly why it is right and why others are wrong…

I feel great on all areas minus A4 tran cycle. I haven’t done those 90 MCQ, and hoping to spend a 3hrs on it before the exam.

What should be my study techniques be until the exam day? (I can do MCQ really quick…and doing 1000/day doesn’t sound too bad. I enjoy doing them rather than reading the book…it relaxes me lol)

I’m finishing up A5 by saturday. Doing all its MCQ and SIMS in passmaster.

Sunday: Doing all passmaster MCQ & SIMS again. Review notecards. A4 Tran cycles.

    Monday: FR and Final Exams

Tuesday: Wiley and skim over Ninja notes

Wednesday: Going over weak areas, doing more Wiley, and doing Final exams again

    Thursday: Exam at 5pm.

Another question: I get my performance summary by e-mail/mail. Does everyone get those or only the people who have failed? I’m asking this so I know whether receiving an e-mail would hint the fact that I have failed?

I would spend more time going over each subject and re-writing notes/ question and answers, especially in your weak areas, than taking final exams since you don't have much time. For me, the final exams take 3-4 hours to get through, then another at least 2 hours trying to look it all over and I usually lose focus when going over the answers and don't get through it all. If you really want to do a final exam, I would just take one on Monday, then you would at least have time to look at your weak areas as opposed to taking a final exam the day before your real exam.

Everyone gets a score report and the performance summary is with it if you fail. So you will get an email/snail mail regardless of whether you pass or not.

    Good luck!

One day is today! I'm DOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

with 6 days left, I would (and am) focus on practice tests and practice SIMS as much as possible. If you google “aicpa released questions” you will find actual questions and sims from previous years. (I am not sure how many of the previous years include SIMS but I know for sure the 2010 released questions do). The wiley test bank has about 10 or 11 different SIMS to practice on, and cpareview for free (if you pay for the $15 essentials, not a bad investment) has about a half dozen practice sims.

I know its frustrating, but you HAVE to have the attitude that you will dominate this time!!!!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Thanks you guys!!

I did AICPA released questions and did really well on MCQ, while SIMS took little bit of trial and error.

I'm hoping do the final exams on Monday…then do it again on Wednesday to see if I do better!!

Def. doing Wiley's SIMS, if nothing else. And scanning over Ninja notes if I have enough time.

    Good Luck & thanks again!

good luck! I have spent most of the day studying REG. UGH. Second try on Nov 1st. I am struggling with Business Law. I am doing all the mcq's in Wiley (this time) and then using Becker for the supplemental in each section. I will probably only do one of the Becker final exams–for me they are sooo hard and really deflate my confidence in the review stage. It sounds like you have solid plan. I agree with mla1699, you do have to go in with a bit of bravado. That is something I need to work on myself. I do remember most people saying the sims in Wiley were much better practice than Becker, so you are in great shape.

I am pulling for ya–take down REG. Report back and let us know how it goes 🙂

aw thank you, that means a lot!!

I'm rooting for you as well!! Def. don't skip over Business law, and if you do the MCQs in Becker and Wiley, you'll be in a great shape. For my 2nd around, I only spent a week..and I basically read R1-R4 and did all the MCQ in the becker for those sections. I didn't even touch R5-R7, nor did its MCQs.

I felt Becker MCQs were great for the actual exam, and they really did prepare me. There were very few that I didn't know (and those were business law…duh, totally expected).

Even for SIMS, they weren't that “hard,” bit difficult but not impossible. I was surprised when I got weaker in it though:(

Go over long-term contracts (I studied that topic out of FAR book as REG didn't have much on it). I've heard it's frequently tested.

Good luck to both of us.
