Took the CPA excel sample auditing exam…here are my scores. Good enough?

First, it took me 1 hour and 25 minutes to complete this start to finish:

    Testlet 1: 20 minutes: 73%
    Testlet 2: 13 minutes: 80%
    Testlet 3: 14 minutes: 76%

    Sims (averaged 6 minutes each):
    Sim 1 100%
    Sim 2 80%
    Sim 3 100%
    Sim 4 80%
    Sim 5 66% (missed 1 of 3)
    Sim 6 100%
Sim 7 0% (research function, I think I was actually right)

Overall that gave me a score of 75%. In the real life exam, wouldn’t my score translate to a higher score due to the adjustments? Would this score be a passing grade in real life?

    Thanks,

Who knows? Wiley's test bank will say that its scores are slightly lower than actual test scores since it doesn't weight and the AICPA does. I don't know about CPA Excel. I think the instructive thing here is that you are doing really well in your studying, but you don't have a huge margin for error.

We'll know more after you do a couple more of these tests.

Oh and for the research, I recommend signing up for the AICPA authoritative literature (you'll have free access as a candidate) and doing the research with that in your practice tests. I found that Wiley doesn't have all of the literature so when you get the actual exam it can be overwhelming how much more vast it is and how many more hits you get for your searches. Again, I don't know if CPA Excel is different.

I found a Wiley research question where the correct answer was not among the literature that Wiley had available. Charming.

    REG 82 (10/07/11)
    BEC 88 (11/01/11)
    FAR 86 (11/21/11)
    AUD 82 (11/30/11)

@The Cartoon Mouse….I've signed up for the codification, but it does not give you the option to serach by specific terms because that's only for actual members..But yeah it's very different from what you see in CPAExcel or Wiley..Any advice for FAR???????I'm scoring in the high 90's on my practice exams, but I'm still panicking with 40 days away…lol..

No time to sign up for any more literature or study, I am hitting a couple more of these tests today and tonight and then I will be taking the test on Wednesday. Tomorrow will be a complete nothing but review day of things I missed and redoing mnemonics, etc.

My score shouldn't go down, right? I mean raw score is more than passing on its own so I should be about there.

I've been studying with the Wiley test bank and raw score (using textbooks, not the computer grading) is 82% over the entire 800 MC questions.

I hope it is enough, failing this test first out of the gate will be a major demotivation.

@CPATerminator You should be able to search as you would in the exam. I just logged into my account and searched the codification and AICPA audit standards without incident. Also, if you're scoring in the 90s for FAR this far out, you shouldn't have any reason to panic. Just be sure that your not scoring in the 90s because you keep taking the same questions.

@CPApending Good call; you should be fine. Your score might go up or down slightly but it shouldn't be dramatic. I think for AUD my last practice test I scored 84 and I got 82 on the exam. For FAR, 86 on both the practice and the exam. BEC — 80 practice, 88 exam. REG — 87 practice, 82 exam.

BEC and REG are a little surprising but I think I graded myself a little harshly on the WCs on BEC, and on REG there was one topic that wasn't on my practice but was tested HEAVILY on my actual exam (that I didn't study particularly well).

That said, you should be fine with your plan.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with those scores. I usually scored around the same or a tiny bit lower on the real exam. I think I got an 86 on my last CPAexcel REG exam and I ended up getting an 85 on the exam.

My method with the CPAexcel final exam was to take one, then go through and take notes on every single question that I wasn't sure about, whether or not I got it correct. I did this over and over.. probably at least 7 times during my final review week. I got my scores up from around 70% to 85-95%.

Also I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about testing on the sims… Just make sure you understand the MCQ really well. You never know what you'll get with the sims.. it's likely that you won't see anything familiar on the actual exam. The best thing about CPAexcel's simulation practice is that it gets you comfortable with the format and types of questions. I just wouldn't focus on trying to bring my scores up on those.

Your score may or may not translate higher due to the adjustments, questions that you got correct on practice exams may not even count on the real thing, or questions you got wrong may not count. The weighting is much different on the real exam than a straight percentage on the practice exams.

That said, keep on doing exactly what you're doing and hopefully your theory will work out correct!

@Kandisjoy, I definitely am not happy with them and didn't stop.

Here's what I did…I focused mostly on Wiley and ended up with an 82% overall across 800 questions. That I am happy with. Then I switched to the CPAExcel with the intention of doing a practice exam or two. I did and each time I improved until I was at about 80%.

Then yesteday, I just started going through the CPAExcel test bank subject by subject. I am scoring well into the mid to high 80's I would say.

I'm glad that I went into the CPAExcel because I picked up some questions which are likely to be covered which weren't on Wiley.

I think I am okay, but what can I do the test is tomorrow.
