I find as I am looking through the Audit flashcards that I can give some kind of vague answer as to what the back of the flashcard will say, but no way can I recall the huge paragraph answers that Becker has.

Here’s what I am thinking, though–what’s the value to being able to do that? I’m very glad this exam isn’t written with cold, fill in the blank questions because if it was, I would never pass. I know a lot of the content on these flashcards, and when I come across it in a multiple choice question I am able to identify which answer is the correct answer. Still, I can’t always guarantee that I’ll be able to spout a bunch of information given a question and no a, b, c, d to choose from.

Anyone else find that their memory works this way–if you see options, you can pick the right one but if you didn’t have those options you might draw a total blank?

I absolutely feel this way. I've been studying for audit for a month and if you asked me what I learned I'd probably be able to tell you 2 things, if you ask me a specific question I -might- be able to answer it, if you gave me a multiple choice question about a specific topic I'd get it right most of the time (or hopefully at least 75% of the time).

We aren't required to know everything about accounting, we're just required to answer a few questions about it. I would agree with you in saying there is very little value in being able to know in detail all of the information about each topic. If you can answer the questions without knowing all the fluff about it based on the options they give you… then you can still answer the questions!

Some might argue there's benefit to knowing all the fluff for the TBS, but it's all given to you anyway in the authoritative literature, and the simulations often give you options (at least from what I've seen for audit) anyway.

I agree with the both of you guys. I use the Becker notecards and when the answer is fairly long, I am not able to repeat everything verbatim. I use the notecards as a way to keep reinforcing the info. For me, I have to keep going over and over this to get it into my head. I still think there is value in reading thru them. It is nice to break up the study routine with them. But that is my .02.

Good luck with Audit…..I sit on 8/30..when do you guys sit?

8/27 myself… took the week off for some final review before the test. I think my biggest concern is ratios, I was never good at them in school and I can't bring myself to learn em now. Becker seems to focus a lot of their sims on them so I'm kind of nervous I'm gonna get romped with one.

Good luck to you as well!
