The no attention span method for studying for AUD

My main problem with studying for audit was the fact that I would completely zone out after 10 minutes on any one topic. After failing the exam twice I had to find a new study method.

First thing I did was purchase a new Wiley book and The Ninja audio and notes. I did a quick read of the notes. They really do give you a good overview of the subject. I downloaded the audio to my MP3 player and listened at night when I went to bed. Almost every night for 4 weeks.

I came home from work in the evenings and would sit down to study after having dinner. I found a dedicated place to study. It made life easier. The way I tackled the book is a bit scattered, but it kept all the concepts fresh in my mind. I would open up the the questions at the end of every chapter. I would do 5. I would then score them and write out an explanation/right answer for every one I got wrong. After that I would then flip back to the section in the book that the question covered. I would read the section and outline it. It rarely took me more than 5-10 minutes to do a mini-outline. A time frame well with-in my short attention span.

Also the week before the test I started rewriting the notes one page at a time.

I would take breaks and reward myself often. If I got all the questions right, then I didn’t go back to review anything. I got up and danced. Felt like I was losing focus, a quick game of candy crush or something similar would make a good break. If I found myself really struggling with a section I would pull that section up on the MP3 player that night and start there in my listening. I’m still certain I absorbed quite a bit of information in my sleep. 😉

This method may not work for everybody, but I managed to go from a 66 to an 84.

Also using many different colors of pen helped to keep the note taking exciting.

@Malissa – thanks for your post. I'm doing a re-study for my second attempt at AUD and I tend to zone out too. I think I'll try your suggestion of taking breaks more frequently.
