Having passed all four – and had one taken away – I can say that the single biggest waste of time in all my prep was insisting on watching Becker lectures. I procrastinated on watching them so, so much. I paused, I took days off, I hated pressing play, and really turned myself off to the process as a whole.
Well, I’m prepping for my retake of auditing, and I have to say, I’m really winging it. I have Becker final review, along with Becker’s MCQ’s but the rest of my effort is decidedly “homegrown”: reading notes, listening to NINJA, doing WTB and understanding the material rather than memorizing it. Dare I say, I’m almost having fun. Though admittedly it’s probably because I can see light at the end of the tunnel.
I just read through the entire chapter on sampling. No highlighting at an insane pace, just reading, understanding and moving slowly though the material. In the amount of time it took me to watch a lecture (actually half the time since I hated them so much I would stop, drop and pick back up) I actually learned something instead of just feverishly highlighting sh1t. I can’t emphasize enough how many hours and days I wasted highlighting sh1t. I wish I could get all that time back, all those hours of highlighting and worry about keeping up with Gearty… and just learned instead. Read and learned.
For anyone considering it, doing FAR before AUD helps. It’s not a tremendous advantage, but it helps to gel various topics together just enough to make them that much more understandable.
MCQ’s and SIMS nonstop May 26th. Kill it with fire (and ample preparation).
