Fellow Ninjas, greetings

I sat for FAR last week and waiting for score..and started studying for Auditing but I am completely lost since Auditing is brand new for me. I have Beckers 2012 and WILEY test bank as supplmentary. Its been a week and I don’t know what i am studying. What is the best approach and best way to grasp the contents in Auditing ; I felt its more theoritical than FAR. suggesstions are highly appreciated. thanks…

Continue to practice M/C questions and sims on the test bank and the book. Practice till you can't anymore. Try to look up in the book why the wrong answers are wrong in the answers. Auditing is way more theory than FAR. Much more judgemental.

cpa2012 here is what I did for auditing…I did yaeger all videos (which include book mcq), then I read each chapter, took notes on each chapter, and did a set of chapter test bank questions (and started taking notes on every mcq) …after that I did the rest of wiley test bank questions, read the chapters again, and read the AT, AU, PCAOB standards. My last few days were a review of my notes, MC notes, etc. Needless to say I was very confident come test time last Saturday. You can do it just put in the time.

I don't have Becker, but it sounds like it starts like Wiley – a big unorganized mess you can't get a grip on or figure out how to connect it. As you get further along, it will start coming together.

Do the MCQ etc. like Op said and also you might as well start memorizing the Standard Unqualified Report and the key words of the 10 GAAS standards & what category they go in etc.

If you have lectures, I would start with those. But I'm assuming you don't so here's what I would do…

Start by going through each chapter, then doing questions at the end. Once you are through the whole book you can start on MCQs. As a previous poster mentioned, do MCQs til you can't do them anymore. Til you're sick. You will get in a rhythm and things will start to come together. I take AUD again on Monday, hoping for that 75!

One other thing.. if you don't have the lectures it might be worth the investment to get the NINJA notes. They really help to outline what is important and what to focus on, since realistically- a lot of what is in the book you don't need to focus on. (sad but true.. in the lectures they will tell you to highlight and go over certain areas.. but NEVER the entire chapter).

thanks everyone for valuable suggestions. Currently, I am following Beckers lectures, as you all know it focuses you to highlight the book, I am not really getting the concept. I felt Tim Greaty only explains like 5-10% of his lecture time.; rest ..only highlight…I might be wrong..I don't know.. Ninja notes may be a good option. thanks anyway..good luck to you guys..

It was my experience (and several others that I”ve read on here) that it doesn't really all start to click for a couple of weeks. Sounds like 1 week into it, you're right where you should be. Keep on swimmin!

When I first started to study for Auditing the material seemed so vague, and it is mostly theory- you are right about that. What I did was do outlines of the chapters on my computer and that is like copying it, (which is a study technique) but I did the outlines in WORD so I had something afterwards for studying. After I did the outline I worked the MCQs. You have to really know the MCQs and the Sims for the exams. I used Wiley Review and I read all the material for each module. I also made PDFs of authoritative literature- there is a lot of extra info in the literature. After a while it all makes sense if you keep at it.

I think A1/A2 in Becker are pretty straight forward if you have a basic understanding of audit opinions, the rest is just memorization. Planning is where things get really difficult, A3 was a complete mess to me, I had to read the Wiley book to know what the Becker lecturer was talking about.

I think Wiley is good for Audit except for the first chapter on professional responsibilities, it's so overwhelming it's almost impossible to study.
