Simulations (select responses)

    Hi guys,

I am just wondering when I am doing the Becker simulations for Audit (as an example), one of the simulations asked to check mark those options that are correct.

I am not sure how the CPA exam is marked (or whether this kind of simulation appears on the exam), but what if I made an incorrect selection, how would it be marked? Let’s say out of 10 options, the correct responses are 2,4,6,8. But I select 2,4,6,8,9,10. By incorrectly selecting options 9 and 10, do I get penalized as if negative marking?

    Thanks

The sim will grade you out of 10 points, you have to get each one wrong. For your example, the correct responses are 2 4 6 8. Therefore, answers 1 3 5 7 9 10 all have to be unchecked. If you had 2 4 6 8 9 10 all checked it would be graded as follows:

    1 – unchecked – correct

    2 – checked – correct

    3 – unchecked – correct

    4 – checked – correct

    5 – unchecked – correct

    6 – checked – correct

    7 – unchecked – correct

    8 – checked – correct

    9 – checked – wrong

    10 – checked – wrong

You'd get an 8/10 on the sim

I have question about AUD Sim. specifically about Authoritative literature data.

Did AL helped answering SIM? lets say, there is question regarding opinion to be included before or after opinion paragraph.

Would I be able to search through AL? or is it AL is in more of generals rules and regulation concerning Auditing?

@Shay – When I took AUD, out of the 6 or 7 sims, I was able to use the AL to find answers for 2 of them (besides the research).. Maybe not all the answers, but it certainly helped me a lot, and I changed a few.

Also, I just double checked through Becker.. the AL lists out where to put the paragraphs etc.. I just did a quick search for “explanatory” and it says “An example follows of an explanatory paragraph (following the opinion paragraph) in the auditors report describing an uncertainty about the entity's ability to continue as a going concern for a reasonable period of time..” and then it goes on to show you the example.

The AL is very helpful.. But for the other 5 SIM's.. no help at all. It really depends what SIM you get… So you could find a few answers in there, and you could find none! So dont depend on the AL.. you need to know your stuff..

    Good luck!!!

@futuremdcpa…thanks for the tips. I was worried, about little things, that I might forget. Good to know AL might be helpful.

I used AL for REG, it did help a little. I was more comfortable browsing REG AL, wasnt sure how AUD works, since there is too much reading. I am not relying on AL for all SIM, but it will help to be confident with at least 2 before I walk out the exam

How would you compare REG, and BEC with AUD, using Becker ONLY?

I used Becker only for BEC & AUD.. and used Wiley for REG as well since I had time.. Looking back, Becker was enough for REG.. But to answer your question.. AUD is just memorization honestly.. Just know the reports inside and out.. the diff types of them, the explanatory paragraph where does it go before or after.. etc.. You need to know that. Also make sure you understand the transaction cycles well enough.. I thought some of the Becker SIM's were pretty close to the actual exam.. maybe not as detailed and long, but certainly close enough.

If you follow all of Beckers advice for AUD.. Your in good shape!
