So the more SIMS I practice the more info I realize is in the Authoritative Lit Tab. Did you guys find this very helpful in the SIMS ( I realize the answer depends on what SIM you had, but you get the jist of my question). I feel like some SIMS I can answer 100% by looking at the tabs. Not sure what this means, just wondering how helpful you guys think they are. Cheers ; )

The easiest way to do well on AUD simulations is to leave enough time to use the research tab. I found one simulation on my exam that was word for word on the research tab. I left 2 hours for the simulations and was able to answer a lot of my simulations from the research tab… I really think it is the key to doing well on the ridiculous AUD sims they may give you.

    BEC - Feb 2012: 80
    AUD - Feb 2012: 84
    FAR - Apr 2012: 78
    REG - May 2012: 90

    Thanks Becker!

Exactly what I was thinking. I took the Becker practice test and left my self with 2:15 (hours) left. I tried to do all the SIMS without using the tabs just to tweak my memory but I found out of 7 tabs I ended up using the tab for 4 of them. Not saying that will happen in the actual test but I am hoping haha. Thanks for the info!

I am using Becker, and I just started studying for Audit (I'm at the end of A1). I don't understand the Authoritative Literature SIMS at all. Are you just supposed to understand what the question is asking and do a keyword search based off that? For instance, the first one I had said something about management refusing to disclose significant related party transactions, and how should the auditor “handle” this. So I searched “related party transactions” and couldn't find an answer, obviously. The answer was to search “inadequate disclosure.” How do you know that? Is there a trick to this I'm not getting yet? I started out with BEC and have no SIM experience!

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

@keelydare1 The ALT is pretty useful. You can use it for just the research question of any of the other 6 SIMS. Becker does a good job of giving you a good number of ALT related SIMS. I think there is 1 in each section and A4 has three. When you use becker it will guide you in the right direction, if you are searching something incorrectly it should say “wrong path” but that wont happen in real life. The key is obviously know what words to search. Be careful, sometimes you will be off one paragraph and get it wrong because the first paragraph describes what you are researching (disclosures for example) but the second paragraph tells you the procedures and what steps to take. Make sure you read the question and see if it is asking. I missed many becker Research tabs because I answered it AU 321.16 when the right answer was AU 321.17.

oh and also since there is a limited number of Research tabs I usually didnt practice them everyday. I would do one then wait a week or so and redo it again, just so I wasnt relying solely on short term memory.

I'm practicing using the authoritative literature for the non-research sims, and I can't seem to use find the right key words that will help me with these sims. Do you ever try using the Table of Contents on the left, or do you always use the search function?

Sorry if this is duplicate info… haven't read all the replies.

Definitely use the Research tab for as many sims as possible. One of my sims I wouldn't have had a clue on b/c it was on how to audit a very tricky FAR topic that was not covered at all in my review materials. I looked it up in the Research tab and found all the answers spelled out for me. It also helped me on 2 or 3 of the other sims, but I had to do some digging for those and then interpret the literature.

@ dualmatrix – what worked the best for me was using the Topical Index on the left. Then once I clicked on the topic, I used “Search Within” which is essentially the same thing as the “Find” function.

For those of you who are good at using Google, I don't think it's necessary to practice Research. I would spend your time going over the actual material.

jenuno who posts on here went from a 74 to a 90-something score, and I think basically the only thing he did differently was use the research tab for the sims the second time around.
