Simulation based on MC performance?

I remember reading for the old exam that the difficulty of the simulations was NOT based on how you did on the multiple choice questions. Is that still the case under the new format? I took AUD a couple of weeks ago and most of my simulation tabs were extremely difficult, and my husband just took it recently and said all his sims were ridiculously easy. He said his MC didn’t seem to get harder, while my 3rd testlet was noticeably more difficult than the first two since a lot of the questions were way more detailed than Becker’s practice questions. I’m wondering if some people are just getting lucky by getting easier sims. Thoughts anyone?

The SIMS do not depend on how you did on the MCQs. They are selected before you start the MCQs.

Is it possible that if you get a harder sim, then, that the questions are weighted to yield more points than an easy sim (so that effectively you don't need to get as many right to get a score between 0-100 on the sim, which is then weighted to 40% of the overall exam score)?

I'm not sure how the simulations are weighted. Like if the whole tab is weighted a certain way or if each sim “box” that you fill in is weighted higher or lower based on difficulty. I've read about how the weighting of questions applies MC questions work on the AICPA website, but they don't really address the sims too much.

I don't think we will ever truly know! Just wait for the score 😉 <–easier said than done, eh?

@reneeflower. I took my exam on Saturday and I experienced the same thing as your husband. The MC didn't seem to get any harder and the tbs wasn't as hard as expected. I've read few comments on how candidates were able to use the research tab for the tbs sections and that was NOT the case for 4 of my sections.

@CPA Someday… Yeah way easier said than done! Unfortunately, patience is not a quality I possess. In fact I scheduled my exam for the Feb. 7th because I thought I'd get my score by the 3rd or 4th week of Feb. I was so mad when I found out the AICPA is holding all scores till March. At least if I fail AUD I know where I went wrong and what to study more the next time around.
