Everyone is so helpful and encouraging on here…thank god for this forum…

im sure everyone has seen my down in the dumps posts..however, i applied for new NTS and just ordered a new study material to try and change it up…

problem is i work for public firm and from mid january-mid april im working around 70 hour weeks which doesnt leave much time to study with a clear head…so i would like to take AUD mid January, BUT, if i pass then my 18 month clock is started without being able to study a lot in feb, march, april….so should i do it anyway and do the best i could, or should i schedule audit maybe end of february so that clock starts a little later? any advice for me on this would be great..

    thanks everyone!

My vote is mid January….just jump in there and go for it! If during your busy time you can't study much just plan on taking one test during those three months.

My 8 months seem to have begun from the END of the testing window (e.g. took FAR on 4/12/11, and credit for it expires 12/31/12 – so 18 months only began from 6/30/11).

Therefore, if this is how it normally is, then your 18 months (provided you hopefully pass) would begin 3/31 whether you take the exam in January or February.

@Acct – Different states calculate it slightly differently. California is 18 months from the date you took your exam. Some states are 18 months from the end of the window. So much for uniformity, huh?

    Oh…that's weird.

I'm just curious, what about the exams are uniform?

    Good luck studying!

@Acct – Exactly. They call it the “uniform” CPA exam but it seems like it is far from uniform.

    It certainly appears that way.

Someone I know has asked me several times why the exam can have different levels of difficulty based on a candidate's answers, etc. and still be called “Uniform” – whether this is really allowed.

I don't know the answer, but I've always assumed that since this is the AICPA we're talking about, it must be ok (at least legally).

Maybe because everyone starts out at the same level? I don't know either. 🙂

    Maybe.

I, personally, haven't thought about it too much though, and accept this as part of the process of taking the CPA exams.

Paid for my audit retake today. I failed miserable in Q3 did not sit in Q4 and stopped studying. I have decided to start studying again to make it happen this time. Sitting in mid January in time for the first release.

    Happy thanksgiving to all.

NYS is very generous, the window begins at the end of the month following the close of the window. In the case where you passed your first part in Q4, the window begins 12/31 !! Very generous.
