Reviewing for AUDIT is so BORING – how to cope?

I’m in Chapter 2 (Becker 2011) and I am so unmotivated to study because the material is so BORING! I’m still waiting for Gearty to crack one of his corny jokes so I can at least convince myself that this material is fun — so far, no corny jokes yet in Chapter 2. To the ones who have gone through Audit and thought also that it is a bore to study, Would you please care to share how to cope with this?

Really though, I also found the material extremely boring. Just try to find something to motivate yourself. Study for 30 minutes and then play on facebook for 5 or finish a section of MCQs and then read your favorite blogs.

I would try to set goals in my studies and then give myself rewards. The rewards can be watching your favorite tv show, playing around online, or going out with your friends on a friday night. Fight through it and then have fun.

Audit was definitely the most boring to sit through. It gets a little better once you get past the audit report chapters.

As far as how to cope, if you find yourself not listening or dozing off, I always stop and take a 5 minute break. Walk around, get a drink of water/beer, do some pushups, etc. Stay with it!

I'm on chapter three (Becker 2012, which now unfortunately has six chapters) and I agree that this stuff is so dull.

I couldn't listen to Gearty read the book anymore, so I stopped watching the lecture and am trying to read the material and take notes on my own. If something seems confusing, I listen to Gearty's lecture for that page on the off chance that he explains something in his own words.

That has helped me a little so far, my scores on the MCQs have been high. However, beer definitely helps as well :).

The only way I stopped myself from dozing off during aud was to mainly do MC questions. I knew the Becker 2011 pass-masters inside and out and supplemented with Wiley TB, CPAreview for free sims ($10 well spent thx to whoever suggested) and ninja notes. The only things I really read were the ninja notes and the different audit reports. Result was a 93 on the test.

Gearty drives me nuts. He uses “again” several times in the same sentence.

“And, again class, you need to look at this report, and again, notice the difference, again…”

Best way to cope is to drink…heavily. Just don't puke on your computer.

Right? I always get so frustrated when he says “again” regarding something he's never mentioned before.

I actually don't think he's too bad when he explains things in the videos they put between the pages, but when he's going through the book I often find myself staring out of the window with my brain completely elsewhere.

My do-over Audit exam is in 4 weeks on November 29th. This time I am memorizing what Yeager told me to memorize (standard report, review report, and compilation report). I didn't memorize last time and I got a 70. Yeager said to memorize GAAS, but do I need to memorize the Attestation Standards- very similiar to GAAS?

On this go around I am doing more reading of authoritative literature and the Wiley text (plus Ninja) rather than going over the same MCQ. My goal is to have a very thorough foundation to answer any MCQ and especially the Sims.

I feel the same way. Not sure why I even watched the AUD lectures. It's a better idea to read through the book and work a ton of MCQs. When I got a MCQ wrong, I'd write an explanation in my notebook, then review it later.

I agree. I'm on the 1st module in Wiley and not only is it boring, I have no idea how to study for it. It's very different than FAR.

I feel like I basically need to memorize the text and my notes are basically me just re-writing everything in the text. I think I should just read the important parts of the text A LOT. And learn the odd things through MCQs..

I thought AUD would be a bit easier than FAR but I think I was wrong. 😛

You don't have to memorize it all-but you MUST understand it. When you really understand it you will be able to handle any question and it will start to become more interesting. You do have to memorize some things because it will make it easier for you on the exam.

I'm struggling with the same problem. I just studied FAR and with Bisk, I'd have a chapter with around 30 pages, 130 MCQs, and a couple hours worth of video lectures. Now with AUD I have 50 pages to read and 30 MCQs to do with maybe one video… I don't know how to study for this…

    FAR - 85
    AUD - 86
    BEC - 84
    REG - 88
