Questions for AUD and Tips for Reg.

I took my Auditing test this past Wednesday and I am sure I failed. I do have a question though. Many people gave advice to use the Research tab to complete the sims. Did anyone have difficulty researching some solutions?

I found out later after my exam that the authoritative literature did provide answers to one of my SIMS and felt like a total dumb***. Only my search kept giving me crap answers. I think I will stick with AU for everything. I was extremely shocked that there were many different standards for the auditing literature. It was overwhelming.

This is silly, but maybe you guys have learned some trick of the trades with regards to research? I might skim over the authoritative literature and learn key terms next time and be more familiar with how the AICPA library works.

Lastly, there were some SIMS that it wasn’t that I did not know the material. However I wasn’t sure what they were asking for. It is hard to explain without violating the disclosure. But I was annoyed. I tried looking for a SIM similar to the ones I saw on the exam(there were two that were on the same topic with the same format, arghhh), but there were none. Did any of you guys have that experience?

I am going to start on reg and retake AUD at the end of the next window. I guess for now, before I ask any tips for Reg, I will scour the forum for tips posted on here. Anyway, feel free to leave tips for REG that you think are useful(ie like printing out tax forms and being familiar (as one person suggested)). Thank you guys for the support!

Hey, Home Stretch, I'm obviously a newbie & haven't taken REG but here's my 2 cents if helpful.

You absolutely have to know something about the organization of the literature before the exam. There are a few special search tools (i.e., Search Within, Advanced Search, Topical Index) but IMHO they're not that helpful if you have no idea where to start.

I definitely learned this with FAR & AUD. Obviously if you enter a random search term if its too broad you get way too many hits. But at the other end it's very difficult to know the exact phrasing to run a more specific search. This happens even when you use the “search for words near each other” feature under the Advanced Search.

If you can get ahold of a Wiley book (just even look at one at a bookstore lol), they usually have a lot of the important standards in there or at least the organization. The Wiley 2012 REG book has a general structure on pg 32. Or even the answers to the research TBS' in the book can show you where important topics are. I'm sure there are lots of good other sources.

I agree with AUD it's particularly tough because there's so many sources. Anyways, hope I'm not talking out of turn because obviously haven't taken REG but twice now I've learned something about the organization & it really helped…
