I am sure most of you or maybe none of you have been in a study rut. I am studying for REG and it is like my whole entire body & mind will not let me study anymore. What have some of you done to get yourself back motivated to study for the exams. I just feel out here alone and no one that is going through what I am going through to talk to about it.. Please Help!!! Thanks,

I switched my venue from home to a coffee shop, played really loud and upbeat music in my headset (thank you Slacker radio and Pandora), and spent a lot of money on coffee drinks. I also started exercising, even though it ate into my study time. It was worth it. I think that the brain works better when it's less stressed out, and exercising helps release stress.

Good luck – you CAN do this!

I second the motion to take a day or two off. I was having the same trouble earlier this week and didn't do anything yesterday. Now I'm back at it.

    Two things:

#1 1 hour of exercise per day (walking dog, pushups, situps)

#2 1 Advil PM 1 hour before bedtime to make sure that I rest and my mind does not keep going over the material while I try to sleep

Best of luck, I have had the same happen to me and it sucks…

The Advil pm is a great idea. I may have to do that. I find myself laying in bed for at least 45 minutes every night, either thinking about the exam or thinking about the things I have put on hold while I do this. And then if I wake up in the night, I'm awake for at least 30 minutes. I even bought a cheap bottle of red wine last night because red wine always puts me to sleep. It worked, got a full night's sleep for the first time in a week, but Advil pm's even cheaper.

Katie, I go with melatonin…way cheaper than the advil pm and my dr recommended it for sleep. The advil pm leaves me drowsy still in the morning and the melatonin doesn't (its with the vitamins in any store)

Yes, but studies show the effects of the melatonin only last long enough to get you to sleep the first time (unless you can find time released melatonin). I'd have to keep retaking it every time I woke up. I want something to KEEP me asleep. Night before last I woke up about every hour.

What's worrying me is my indecisiveness about sitting for audit. I had decided to go ahead and sit for it even though I haven't taken FAR yet, but the discussions yesterday about 5 of 7 sims being on FAR just confused me more. I just don't know what to do.

I had the exact same experience with REG, either because it's REG (logic, hah! more like 8 million bits of trivia to memorize) or because it was my last exam. Took such a long break I had to completely start over with the Yaeger DVDs after getting halfway through. Postponed twice. My spouse, who used to complain about my study time, got worried and told me, “Don't slack off now, you're almost done.” I also had to get over it that REG is HARD. I had taken BEC in 2010, so I knew business structure, I'd filed individual (incl schedule C), employment tax, nonprofit and trust filings, so I figured –hey, partnership, corporate, gift & estate, a little business law, no biggie. I was losing my mind by secured transactions.

I moved from the dining table to a card table in the spare room to change up my study enviro. Also my family had to walk all the way down the hall to find me instead of just hollering from the kitchen. I changed my goal from “get the best score I can” to “pass.” And I (partway) put my trust in Phil and did only his assigned questions in the Wiley book. (I know this has not worked for others who felt unprepared.) I followed up with the Wiley CD section by section along with the Yaeger cram. That cram definitely helped some light bulbs go off.

Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, leave an hour and a half for SIMs on test day, and you can do it, MyLife!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and ideas. I will definitely be using all of your responses. Especially the Tylenol PM and the exercising (which I do not do a lot of at all.)
