    Hey A71 Members

I am in need of some advice on AUD; here is some background info.

I am a recent graduate that dual majored in Accounting & Finance. I took BEC right off the bat since I thought it would be easy due to my additional knowledge about finance, this proved to be true. I studied hard for about ten days and then an additional few of mild review and smashed the exam with a 93 – HiYa! I took a few days off and then hit to books for FAR. I loved my intermediate classes and preformed well in these; in addition, I have a passion for finance so much of financial accounting just makes sense and is very interesting. I completed about three weeks of hard study time and a few days of mild review and took the exam last week. While I obviously don’t know my score yet, I am confident I did well. The first test bank was simple and the second two were a bit more challenging, but nothing that seemed impossible. The sims were also relatively easy and I had 2.5 hours to complete them so I referenced almost every JE with the AL. With that said, I feel confident I passed FAR.

Now it’s time for AUD. I started studying over this past weekend and have VERY mixed feelings. First, I’ll be honest, I spent virtually all my time during my undergraduate auditing class reading CNBC articles, so I didn’t really come away with much, thus much of this material is new. Secondly, it bores me to tears; simply put, I lose interest in the lecture or the MCQs after about 10 minutes (and write posts such as these). Considering that I am a very determined person, I can force myself to push through this stuff in time; however, I am concerned about my retention of the material. I take the MCQs and instead of feeling like I am recalling information from the lecture or the reading, I feel like I can simply eliminate three answers and therefore have the correct choice. This method has yielded average scores in the very high 80’s or lower 90’s. Part of this makes me confident, the other part makes me feel like I truly don’t understand the material and am just an amazing guesser.

The crux of the matter is simple, I want to UNDERSTAND. I have never been a “memorizer” I actually like to understand the material. I don’t know if AUD is just so much different that BEC and FAR that this is normal, or if I should be worried.

Any advice, tips, tricks, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

you're scoring in the high 80s/low 90s for your MCQs? and you're calling them “average scores”?? what exactly is the problem?

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!

Used Becker self-study materials (just this for FAR original & REG #1), WileyTestBank, NINJA notes/audio, and Roger cram course for AUD #5, REG #3 & FAR reboot. CPA!

I guess my issue is that I am scoring this well, but feel like it's simply because I am eliminating the wrong answers. On both BEC and FAR I would read the question and either know how to do the math or know what the correct answer should be and look for it. For AUD I feel like I don't know the answer after I read the question but that I have to find it by eliminating the incorrect answers. Yes, I know this method works and yes I know I am scoring well; however, I want to know if others feel this way about AUD versus FAR or BEC. Is it because the subject mater/question type is so much different?

I agree w/gsnyder00 Unless you are memorizing the answers those are great scores. And as for boring… try studying for a 5th time!!! Ugh. I want to be an amazing guesser lol

Audit just has to be trudged through like it's the yucky mud it is, hang in there, keep going, I think you will be fine….

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

Well if are find AUD as a subject very un-motivating then why don't you see if this course review will help you.

Go to You tube and search for RogerCPA. Watch his lectures.

If you enjoy this lecture/teaching why don't you invest in his AUD Cram course of full AUD lecture (depending on what you want to spend)

Honestly, you will actual sit and watch his whole lecture. He will make you understand the subject well and i am sure when you do your practice questions it will show.

Give him a true 🙂 I was in the same shoes as you are now. After I switched to Rogers AUD makes more sense to me and i do well in the MCQ's. Its the SIM's where my brain just has to die on me 🙁

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

@littlenumberrobot – it's good to hear others day it must be “trudged through like it's yucky mud” – that is exactly how I feel.

Best of luck to you on your studies!

@insiyah24 – I am sure Rodger's course is great; however I was the Becker Rep at my campus so I received the program for free. It's hard to shell out cash when I have a full kit in front of my that cost me 8 hours of my time.

Thanks for the advice though, I will keep it in mind if I am unsuccessful on attempt #1.

    Good luck in your studies!

@Adrost, I felt very similar while studying for AUD, getting mostly 90% right from process of elimination, but never feeling like I totally had a full grasp of every detail. I just took AUD and sure enough, process of elimination works on test day too. The MCQs are the same as Beckers… so I would say you will be okay, just use determination to force yourself through this section and do a bunch of Progress tests, you will get very similar MCQ's on test day.

thanks, I should reiterate though, obviously still seek to understand the material at a higher lever, but feel okay that you can also find the answer from process of elimination, definitely feels unique to audit. put in the hours and youre gonna crush it
