Most difficult topic in AUD?

I’m curious what topic(s) candidates seem to find the most challenging in the AUD section. I’m in the middle of the Evidence (Wiley) and it seems like a lot of material. So far, for me, this is going to be tough. I see where tricky questions can be asked.

Also, how well do we need to ‘know’ the AUD standards?

    AUD: 07/11/11 - Passed
    BEC: 08/27/11 - Passed
    FAR: 01/17/12 - Passed
    REG: 04/30/12; Re-take 7/16/12 - Passed

    FINISHED!!!!!!!!

There were a few areas that I had trouble with. Once I finally was able to remember which assertions were related to which accounts or disclosures (and that took a while), I still had trouble identifying which was the “best” test for that assertion. When practicing MCQ, it seemed like I was constantly picking the answer with a test that would work but that wouldn't be a good a test as the one in the correct answer. I also had a mental block about reviews. They weren't that difficult, but I kept messing up on some of the details in the MCQ. Finally, I had trouble understanding some of the details about sampling. I read Becker and Wiley twice but kept glazing over. I ended up having to read my old auditing textbook before I understood enough to do the practice questions. The only way I got these topics straight in my head was by doing lots and lots of MCQ.

I memorized the standards. I don't know that you have to do that, but you should know them very well.

Totally agee with KB24. Matching relevant assertion is very hard. And I had serious problem with internal control too. Especially questions like identify internal control deficiency with solution. I studied with Wiley, and those kind of question always got me.

By the way, KB24, are you still waiting for your score? I took audit yesterday. I really hate all this waitng.

Waiting for all my scores. I'm going to go nuts if I have one more person ask me if I've gotten them yet. No matter how many times I explain that it's not a percentage, they keep asking “but it's all in the computer — why can't they just tell you your score as soon as you finish the test?” AARRGH!!!!!

    Sampling, for sure.

Took my test May 29th. Now waiting on two scores… if I pass both, I'm done. If I don't pass them, I'm going to crawl to a corner, roll myself into a ball, and cry for an hour. Then I'll start studying again. God I hope that I passed. I felt so good about both of these tests, but I know that there's always a chance that I failed.

    @AccountAnt

Didn't mean to imply I was annoyed at you for asking if I'd gotten my score yet. Rather, it's people like some friends of mine. I've told them a dozen times that I won't find out anything till late June, but they keep asking me why they can't just go ahead and give me my scores.

Sampling and understanding the various internal control processes (basically Becker chapter 4) I thought was for sure the toughest. I should have taken a week and a half on that chapter.

    FAR - F (2011), 5/16
    AUD - F(2011)
    BEC -
    REG -

2nd attempt at this thing. Time to get serious.

@kb and Ant – I think we are in the same boat as far as the tough parts. IC is not easy. However, I find it a little easier because over the years I have developed IC for companies I've worked at. Also, I've been through audits so I have an understanding of what is desired IC.

The assertions and the specific procedures are killing me though. I think I will have to spend more time on these than planned.

@kandis & ak – I remember sampling was a tough topic for me when I took my last audit course in college. I foresee I will be asking many questions here about that in the weeks to come.

Looks like all three of you are awaiting scores…I hope you all did well!

CPAMan, are we allowed to say things like that? I've thought about postings things like that, but I always thought it was a violation of the disclosure agreement.
