Making a cheat sheet for the exam AUD

    No I am not talking about making a sheet to bring in with me!

    Jeff mentions some items during his audio lectures that would be important to write down on the piece of paper supplied when you sit down to take the test. I was thinking of practicing making a cheat sheet prior to the exam with important mnemonics and other helpful hints. I would rewrite this in advance several times in advance prior to the exam. Then when I sit down to take the test I would hammer it out first thing and have it while answering questions. Anyone else do this or have input as to how it could be helpful or would I just waste precious exam time? With practice I am sure I could have an entire page of helpful info written in under 10 minutes.

    Even better, you can sit down at the computer and wait to enter your launch code! Then you can spend as long as you want (even over 10 min) to write stuff down. The 10 minutes only start once you enter the launch code!

    Not sure if that's true .. seems to me you had a certain amount of time to enter your launch code.

    @marks – I kind of remember having the lady watch me enter my launch code right away to make sure it worked. This happened all four times for me.

    @Brent –

    1. Thank you for linking to your blogger posts. You are the first to do that and I think all bloggers should follow in your lead.

    2. Your girlfriend/wife is cute! I bet she is a trouble maker.

    3. You are an auditor and you are taking AUD first? Weak sauce! Should have gone for the kill first and knocked FAR/REG out of the way. Save the easiest for last!

    4. Of all the exams, you need to write the least amount of notes down for AUD. If you want, jot down the toughest couple of things you have difficulty remembering. You'll have WAY more time than you'll need for AUD. I am not an auditor, never took an auditing class, and I walked out of the room with 2 hours remaining.

    Good luck!

    I agree with Mini about not having to worry about time with AUD. I also think it depends on your testing center and how they do things as to whether you will have lots of time before the test to write things or not. Every time I have gone, they have just ushered me to my seat and left. I never sat there too long before entering my launch code, but it seemed like I could have. Once the code is entered, then your time starts ticking, I think. But I have seen others say that they were watched while entering their code to make sure it worked OK. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to write some notes down if you need them and if you have review time to practice that, but can't imagine you'll need it. Although I have taken an auditing class in college, I have never done any auditing either and had tons of time leftover at the end of my exam as well.

    I was not allowed to write anything down until I placed my access code and read the instructions. The people at the prometric center I take my exams at are not very nice. Once I was wearing a jacket because it was very cold and was told to remove it, however, the woman who told me that had a heater under her desk. Again, not allowed to write on the sheet that was provided until the test started.

    I didn't do it but a friend of mine did. He said after a few min they came to warn him that he'd better start before his ten minutes are up – and he pointed out that he didn't enter the launch code yet and they were ok with that.

    They never stayed with me to watch me put in the launch code – all 4 times.

    Thanks so much for all the input in this thread.

    @Mini:

    1. I am glad someone is actually reading my blog posts! They are really quite enjoyable to post and it will be fun to look back on them. I was going to talk to Jeff and see if he could combine them all on one page for each user instead of having separate links.

    2. Girlfriend, thanks for the compliment and yes, she is a quite the trouble maker but has been very supportive during the time I have spent studying.

    3. Really wish I would have done FAR first but I will have my way with it come February. The review material has done an excellent job at providing me with a better understanding of auditing.

    4. Regarding your comment on notes for AUD. I have filled 3 notebooks from information extracted from my review material and the ninja notes! Looking back I probably could have skipped on this but what the heck I have the time. This will be my first exam so I really wanted to put the effort forth and get it done the first time. I am thinking for my cheat sheet will contain mnemonics of how the reports flow and other areas that I have had trouble in.

    I really appreciate all the talk about the launch time. I figured once you walked in the door the time started. Might as well take as much time as they give me before telling me to enter the code.

    After reading through the audit exam experience thread, my biggest worry is with the simulations. I am doing well on progress tests with Becker (high 80's). Would anyone recommend I purchase additional simulations? I also have the Wiley test bank to go through yet.

    I was fine with just Becker but I suppose it depends what type of SIMS you get on the test. Just practice looking things up in the Authoritative Literature – it can help quite a bit and you usually have the time to do it. Some people have said they have found SIMS answers almost word for word in Authoritative Literature.
