Knowing when to move on to the next Section

I’m preparing for the AUD Section of the CPA and this is my first time at taking any of the 4 CPA Sections and I will be taking my exam on 10/18 and what I’m most concerned with is when do you know you’re ready to move to the next section. A1 and A2 came to me pretty quickly but so far A3 and A4 have been much more difficult. Currently, Becker has me doing a chapter a week and sometimes this can be difficult due to the fact I work about 50+ hours a week. I’m doing my best trying to stick with the study plan they have set for me which is 1 chapter a week with 2 weeks of Review but how do I know when I should move onto the next section. When I’ve taken the MCQ for A3 and A4 I score anywhere between 60-75%. I’ll always go back and review the concepts and retake the MCQ but I don’t feel that I really have the concepts down. My concern is that when I’m finished with all the 6 Chapters, those earlier chapters will look foreign to me due to the fact I haven’t been looking them over once I move on to the next chapter. Will those final 2 weeks of review be a sifficient amount of time to refamiliarize myself with the concepts or should I breakaway from Beckers plan and take more time with the chapters? Please any advice is appreciated from those who have taken prior sections or have already taken this exam.

I'd keep doing what you're doing. AUD is the easiest section (in my opinion). Go through all the lectures, do the HW, and then the last week, just re-read everything you highlighted/underlined. Grasp the concepts. The mneumonics didn't help much to me. I did this for about 3 weeks, and felt a tad unprepared going into the exam, but ended up getting an 83, and was surprised at how much I retained.

    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

I would move on each week to the next chapter and periodically take 15-30 question progress tests covering the prior chapters. Also be sure to read your prior notes each week. What also helps is flashcards and listening to ninja audio or if you don't have that re-listening to the lectures while doing other things like cleaning or getting ready for work. During your final review, re-read the highlighted parts or the whole book.

I agree with the previous suggestions.

I personally don't follow anybody's study plan. I created my own. I like to go through all the lectures, all the chapters, take notes, do MCQ's once for all chapters as I go – the first 2 weeks, and then I have at least 4 weeks to go back to my notes and re-do MCQ's 2-3 times, depending on a topic, until I get at least 80% on each.

I use Roger CPA review. I also have Wiley books and Becker books, so I like to read the material again from different textbooks – after I studied, so I can see how much I actually memorized and how much I still need to learn.

2 weeks for review can be enough or not enough, depending on how much time you have to review….with 4 weeks of review it gives me plenty of time – only 2 hours per day x 28 = 56 hours which is plenty of time to review for AUD without having to study hard every day.

    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)

I am studying for AUD right now as well…here is my study plan:

Watch lecture and highlight a section.

Go back and write notes for that section.

Do the MCQ for that section.

Move onto the next section and repeat.

After each section is complete I do the SIMS.

I also do progress tests of 20-30 questions after every other chapter to make sure I am still fresh with the past material.

I have 12 days to review…I think that is sufficient time to study the 6 chapters at least twice.
