It's true what they say about AUD…

It is so tricky! I took the test on April 14th and came out really feeling good about it. I did well on the first 2 testlets. The third testlet was very difficult for me though. I had to take an educated guess on about 10-12 of the 30 questions. They were just from left field. Questions I really had barely any idea on. I thought I did pretty well on the SIMs. Had two research that I thought I got right. 3 out of the remaining 5 I found word-for-word in the AL. The other two I did my best on and thought I got partial credit on. So when I left the testing center, I really thought I had a good chance of passing.

Score release came Friday and when I looked at the screen, I saw a heartbreaking 72. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. I really thought I had passed. And to see that 72, I was SO angry and upset. I know this happens to many of us but I just wanted to ask y’alls opinion on how I should proceed from here. I now have to get new or updated materials for the clarified SASs and I am thinking I will retake it at the end of August after I take REG on 7/14. That’ll give me 6 weeks to go over everything again and really make sure I understand everything.

Any suggestions or advice on this? Any would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

kreibsome08 – same thing happened to me! I did great on MCQ and I also found 3 of the SIMS word for word… and I got a 69!!! I bought NINJA notes and I now listen to audio every day I'm getting ready for work (I'm a girl so it takes me a little while). I have one last chance before the changes. Already I am seeing a difference going through everything with the Notes and Audio. I think I am starting to fully understand it all now, especially internal control and audit risk. Maybe I just needed more time? Who knows(btw the older Audit scores I hadn't really studied for due to time constraints).

I listened to Yaeger audio on my way to and from work. Probably about an hour or hour and a half a day and really loved it. I really thought I was understanding it. That's the hard part for me is I thought I was ready and to see that 72 killed me! But I'm ready for round 2!

I think I'm going to get Jeff's Ninja notes once they are updated for the new SASs and read and rewrite them. His notes are really helping me with REG. The funny thing is I actually enjoy AUD (I am an internal auditor) so I'm not dreading studying for it again. I'm just upset that I have to again lol.

But good luck to you at the end of this month! You got it this time! And thanks for your input and advice 🙂

    I'm in the same boat.

I took 2 and 1/2 weeks to study for AUD. Was in between transitioning between my new job so I was able to study full-time. 8+ hours into it everyday. Supplemented with Ninja Notes. Got the Ninja Audio. And I got the Wiley questions. I was scoring extremely well on Becker progress exams (80%ish) and pretty decent on Wiley (70%ish). I went through at least 700 Wiley MCQ's. Took notes on literally everything.

And I walked out the exam feeling pretty good albeit the Simulations were monstrous.

And I get my score back today and it's a 65! I only got two Comparable's and the rest Weak for the MCQ's and Weaker in the Sims as well. I was expecting something in the 80's.

Does anyone have a game plan for tackling AUD within the next 3 weeks? I'm frightened because I thought I was geared up and ready to go only to find out that I got completely destroyed. So I feel extremely lost and could use some guidance.

InfernoOmni – If you are referring to retake AUD this month, that isn't possible. Or do you mean 3 weeks before the first testing period in July? You cannot take the same section in same testing window. I assume you took AUD this window if you just got the score today.

Yea, Inferno, it sucks. Now we have to study and get new material for the clarified standards that will be implemented in July. Ick.

    @ kreibsome08 and Inferno:

I felt the same like you did!!!! It is just as I had written your posts. I studied for Aud 3-4 weeks (only studying!) and was sure I knocked it out. My testlets got harder and harder and I tought I did well on the SIMS as well since I could find 2 of them 1:1 in the literature!!! I thought I sored at least 80. And what do you think?! It was 73. I cannot believe it!!!! Really, I can't! I did all the Becker MCQ 2 times and went over marked ones another 2-3 times! I really thought I was prepared well and didn't feel bad during the exam.

I have absolutely no idea what went wrong!!

I did FAR on Jan 31 and passed with 79 and had not at all this feeling like during AUD. I thought I would fail FAR but I passed.

I really don't understand the world anymore … right now.

And in addition now I have to learn all the new/other stuff to take AUD in July again. 🙁

Just got my “detailed” report: I was “compareable”(3x) and even “stronger”(3x) on the MCQ and “weaker” on the SIMS.

I still cant believe it, since I could find 2 of the SIMS word by word in the AL…

Wow, that's crazy. I'm still waiting for my detailed report. I really anxious to see mine too.

The score reports are garbage. I failed my first time with a 73 and was ‘Weaker' in all of my MCQ sections.

Keep your head up and keep grinding. You were pretty close, and if you clean up a few of your weaker areas, you'll dominate the retake.

    Good luck!

It's like I wrote this post… I took AUD in February and knew I passed, got a 70. Was devastated and cried for hours. Just took it on 4/9 and got an 84. After my first fail, I had no idea what to think about this second time through.

I dunno why, but I must have gotten the easiest SIMS cus I scored Stronger both times. I do use google 1000 times a day and can search pretty well so maybe that's why.

All I can say is do multiple choice forever. I thought I knew everything the first time, but didn't do all of the MCQ. Second time through, I completed all of the Wiley book & online test bank.

    REG: 84

Thanks Casey! I'm definitely going to work on my weak areas (since I already pretty much know what they are) and beast that exam next time! And congrats on passing AUD this time around!

Samdiego, good advice! I was like you and didn't do all of the MCQ because I felt confident about my knowledge. I'm definitely going to do all of them next time around. Thanks! And congrats on your 84! Here's to hoping I follow in your footsteps next time 🙂

YOU CAN'T TAKE THE SAME SECTION IN THE SAME WINDOW?????? oh my!! I was waiting for my aud score (took on 04/29/13) on the 23th and thought ‘well, if I fail, I will retake on 05/31/13″ Now I'm scared about all your posts, I felt very iffy leaving the testing center…. ***praying praying praying***

Yes, you can't take the same section in the same testing window. AICPA rules, I believe. Hope you pass it! Crossing my fingers and toes for you!

@kreibsome08 Thanks for your good wishes!! Ahhh this is so not good! well on a good note, I can concentrate 100% on BEC which I'm taking on 05/31/13 and thought that I'd reschedule and take next window to give that date for AUD rematch… I'm really hoping I passed, I really don't want to take again and have to get new material. On a happier note, I just got my FAR score yesterday and I GOT AN 86!!!!!!!!!! Good luck on your test!!
