Is AUD less memorizing and more knowing the concepts?

Hey all I am taking AUD in a few weeks and I’m currently in the review stage using Becker. The questions haven’t really seemed that hard and I avg. around 60-80% the first time through the questions. I have put a lot less energy into memorizing this stuff as I did for FAR (which I passed). So my question is should I focus more on memorizing or just reading the stuff over, doing questions/SIMs?

    Thanks!

Yes, focus more on understanding the concepts. The same can be said for the other 3 parts.

AUD was the easiest for me. That said, there is always some memorization to be had for each part.

If you are doing well on the questions/quizzes, you should be fine. I did the AUD homework like 3 times and did like 4 100 question reviews and the practice exams. Came out with a 92.

@heatmiser, that's good to know. I feel pretty damn good about the material so far, having an AUD internship has def helped me in some areas as well. I just believe the FAR was more of memorize these terms/methods while AUD overall seems far less specific memorization. I am working my way towards finishing up the questions I got wrong then the practice exams

I am going to go against the grain here and say concepts aren't NEARLY as useful in AUD as memorizing is. Some of this stuff has no rhyme or reason in AUD……yes there are concepts that you must grasp but theres a lot more memorizing than in the other sections.

Agreed with @mla… the whole reporting sections are all about memorization.. and they're heavily tested.

Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, I don't think it's necessary to memorize the reports… a lot of people say they have re-written all the reports multiple times in order to memorize them, I think just one quick read through them and A LOT of MCQ practice should get you the knowledge you need.

I recently started studying for FAR. It is by far the most concept based exam, and I have passed the other 3 in first attempt. AUD is the one that requires more memorizing than understanding. At least I could never find a way to “understand” why a certain report is written a certain way, which report requires explanation paragraph with what language and what not (and yes you will be tested on reports). I only used Becker. Lectures are boring and will make you want to pull your hair out. Follow the procedure. Use mnemonics<<<probably the best help in memorizing reports format. Do the homework problems after listening to lecture for each topic instead of trying to finish all the lectures first. I studied for AUD for 22 days, came out of the test feeling pretty good and Passed with 88. Good luck!

AUD was the only test I had to take twice, and I'm sure it's becuase I underestimated the exam. Be careful with this one, and read every question carefully. Do not rush, as I did in test 1. You have plenty of time to do AUD, so use it!

Thanks for the ideas. I will try and memorize the report formats for but I feel like I understand a lot of the AUD concepts.
