Hi GreeneyesCPA. I live in Temecula, CA. Where are you?

I was in Riverside for six months in 2010 and I thought it was the oddest place on earth. Everybody wears Rockstar Energy Drink hats, has extensive tribal tattoos, and they call everyone “bro”. Grown men acting like they're 12 years old. Thank god I made my way 70 miles west to an amazing city, LA, for six months after!

Let me guess: You're both toughing it out until you finish the CPA, then you'll move to OC or LA? From what I remember, jobs were scarce there, especially for the highly educated.

Anyways, I don't mean to rip on your respective cities! Riverside brings back some memories!!

Temecula now is a developing city. You'll see alot of entreprenuers out here. Jobs are scarce depending on your field. Alot of people I know either travel south to San Diego or north to Orange County everyday for work. I am lucky enough to have found a small CPA firm 10 minutes from home. People of Temecula are not as you described.

Yeah, that's more or less what I meant by jobs being scarce. If you're not working for Abbott or Pechanga, you've got to drive 1-2 hours each way to find reasonable employment. It sounds like you lucked out, 10 minute commutes are amazing!!

Entrepreneurs in Temecula??? Doing what??? The population size is too small and aging, and there's no competitive advantage (talent pool, natural resources, low-tax environment) for doing business there. I'm not sure who told you that but it doesn't make sense.

Also, it's not a good thing when a single Indian Casino drives the whole local economy. That's actually very bad.

I actually live in Eastvale which is part of Riverside county. There are many young families here. Yes we do have the tattooed folk and big trucks around here, but it's not the majority. It's changed quite a bit since new homes and communities have been built.

jkey57 – my family owns a business in Temecula which has had me involved with the Temecula Chambers of Commerce. You see a variety of people of all ages in business doing real estate developers and agents, graphic design, restaurant owners, insurance agents, CPAs, lawyers, dentists, famers (avocados and oranges) and most importantly….the local vineyards.

Also, at our firm all of our accounting clients are local businesses. So I can tell you from my personal experience, there is a good number of self-employed people living in Temecula.

greeneyescpa – that must be me. I've been on and off this CPA journey for some time now.

Isn't it kind of creepy to ask people you don't even know to form a study group? I am a pretty trusting person and I'm sure most people on this site are decent, but still be careful out there!

I'm not paranoid about that… If we met it would be in a public area anyway.

how do you study for this in a group exactly? sure you can ask questions and stuff but i feel like between the commute time to meet people and getting setup at a library and etc. it would all just be a waste of time. not sure, i personally need to be alone with 100% silence when i study.
