MemberSince this is my 7th attempt (and last chance to save REG) I need to conquer this once and for all!!!
From reading a lot of AUD stories it seems that SIMs are extremely important. I seem to be testing weaker in that area no matter what I do.
I have WTB, did all the SIMs and even printed them out for more review.
I have tried using AL but besides the research question, it never really helps me π
Anyone who has passed this beast – what did you do for the SIMs?

Participant@G3, The first time I took AUD I studied all wrong. I thought I could watch the videos, make notes from what they told me to highlight, do MCQ's and pass. My 65 is reflection of that kind of studying. I didn't have a real understanding of the information
On retake I went back to my tried and true study techniques.
-I read the book myself (skipped the videos)
-made notes from my highlighted portions
-made flash cards
-I did MCQs in Becker and WTB, whichever questions I got wrong I printed and reviewed.
I don't think I actually read the notes I took but the process of reading, and then typing helped me learn the info. I also practiced “going with my gut” I think a lot of times we start second guessing ourselves during the test and I made sure I went with my first instinct.
AUD - 65, 89!
REG - 70, 89!
FAR - 78!
BEC - 77!Finally!

MemberG3- I would definitely recommend that you work on being able to better navigate the AL. Maybe you can try to leave yourself a bit more time for the SIMS, so that you can be a little more relaxed as you search for things? I gave myself 45-50 minutes for each MCQ testlet and that left me well over an hour and a half to do the SIMS.
Also, I know from my experience (and many others on A71 who took audit in q4 2013), I was able to find all the answers for an entire SIM in the AL. Like word for word.
Some other tips for the AL– work on being able to identify that “keyword” that you can search for in the AL. Also, if you have a general idea for which section of the AL your answer may be, use the “search within this section” function to narrow down your search results.
F- 7/13- 84
R- 10/13- 79
A- 11/13- 99
B- 1/14- 86Licensed in PA- 3/20/2014
This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

MemberI kept failing audit because of the simulations…
I would score stronger on multiple choice and weaker on the simulations. I used the wiley test bank to study along with the released AICPA questions. I couldn't figure it out because I went through every simulation in the wiley test bank time and time again… that's when I realized the what my biggest problem was…. I was using the wiley simulations to study…
Do I think Wiley is hands down the best software for studying for multiplice choice? Aboslutely. So how to supplement is the next question. That's when I found out about Gleim, for a hundred bucks I bought the Gleim audit simulation wizard software with 100 simulations. As I went through it felt good to see simulations that were similiar to the ones on the test, this is what put me over and allowed me to pass.
Second biggest thing I learned in passing Audit is the “Search Within” tool. I spent so much time scrolling through the AL looking for key words. The biggest thing to remember in using the AL is the less words the better, I wouldn't suggest more then two, and once in the sections type a keyword in and use the ‘Search Within'. It allows you to move through quicker and find exactly what it is they're asking.
Biggest things to pull alway from this is if you're doing stronger in multiplce choice and weaker in sims:
~ Buy the Gleim audit software for $100
~ Be sure to use the ‘Search Within' too… Keep in mind that is different than the “Search” tool.
-Also, don't waste your time in the Gleim simulations looking at the flow chart stuff or internal control symbols… I have never seen one questions in regards to that on Audit… the rest are fairly aplicable…
Good luck…

MemberUse the AL, I found one SIM word for word in the AL, and I hear other people find at least two SIMs in AL. I had two research SIMs so I knew the one I found in the AL counted. And the other SIMs I found bits and pieces in the AL.

MemberIn the past the AL has not worked for me. However, I have somehow overlooked the “search within” button in my past attempts.
Since it seems there is no “guaranteed” way to study for SIMs besides getting the best grasp of the material as possible. I will study even harder and incorporate the AL more and the “search within” button π

ParticipantYou have to be able to use the AL. There is no way I could have memorized the info for that SIM. Too obscure. You would have to memorize everything. They are testing you on your ability to use the AL. In real life, you will do this a lot. I work for a govt agency and I research and apply gasb standards often.

ParticipantI passed AUD on my first try in '12. Here's a question some of you may find odd, but I swear I'm drawing a blank:
Did AUD always have SIMS? I could have sworn it was MCQ only.
AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
BEC - 74 , 77
REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
FAR - 69 , 75Dr: perseverance
