I am pretty much done with the Becker book now and the only thing I really struggled with was the sampling. I don’t know if it was because I was bored while reading it or uninvolved or if my brain just didn’t get it, but I didn’t like the section at all. If I know the basics of it, am I ok to move on from it? Or should I spend more time on it?

I don't remember sampling being heavily tested, but I'm sure I had a couple MCQ's on it. I didn't have any sampling SIM's for sure, but each test is different. If you show up on test day with a weakness, the CPA God's seem to have way of uncovering it during the test.

@bhunt815, Isn't that the truth. I have chosen one topic each test not to really focus on for REG and FAR and had a freakin' sim on each topic. You think I would stop skimming edges but here I am trying to skip over sampling haha. I will be sure to put a tad more effort into it, thank you! 🙂

Try to at least understand it. I had the same problem as you and it gave me trouble exam day. I ended up failing with a 74.

You may benefit from being well rested & having a fresh mind when reading it. I know I struggled hard understanding sampling after a long day of studying and got a better grip of it with a well rested mind.

Spend a bit more time to try and understand it but don't spin your wheels.

@ Joe, Stacy, and LoTove Ok I will be sure to read through it once more just to really make the basics a bit more concrete. I have been not taking notes because the material has been somewhat doable, but I will take some notes for this part as it usually keeps me concentrated. Thank you guys! 🙂

knowing the impacts certain things have on sample size and the general purpose of the different sampling methods is important. Going into the nitty gritty details, probably not so much.

I had a SIM on sampling, very detailed too. So I'd personally give it a thorough read.

I'd only focus on knowing the basic concepts like incorrect acceptance/rejection risk, difference between variable and attribute sampling, etc. I can only speak from my exams, but I took AUD twice and never had a sampling question.

Let's just say if I had skipped Sampling by mistake, my grade wouldn't have been that different. But each person gets a different exam so who knows. The most it will be is a few points according to the guidelines.

I've taken AUD twice and agree with @bhunt815, dont spend too much time on it… People seem to say (and Becker even mentions) that transaction cycles are frequently tested so I'd spend some time in that area. Also, from my exam experience, I highly suggest spending a bit of time in Govt/NFP audit chapters and dont forget about the ratios/calculations in the appendix from one of the earlier Becker chapters 🙂
