How do you get yourself through Audit

So i managed to get through BEC and FAR. Now i thought the hard parts were over, but boy was I wrong. I am finding audit horrible. The material is just boring me. At least with FAR and BEC, I was interested in the material. However, audit is just rule after rule after rule. I am half way done with the 3rd lecture in Audit and am not taking the exam till the 20th, but I am finding this section just draining all the motivation that I had for the CPA exam.

How do you get yourself motivated to study this boring material!

    BEC: 82
    FAR: 79
    AUD: 85
    REG: July 10th

Auditing is boring and dry by nature. You just have to hang in there and get through it. Good luck.

Joe36y, I'm in the EXACT same boat as you. Audit is nothing by rules and I'm more of a numbers kind of gal. I noticed that it helps me to pretend that I'm an auditor while studying the material. Once I start thinking about the material, it seems more bearable and I feel like I understand the material much better.

Another thing to consider is that I'm not an auditor and do not plan on becoming one any time soon, so I make myself feel better by reminding myself that I just need to put up with this for 3 more weeks and (hopefully) never have to touch audit materials ever again!

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

    Used NIU Correspondence CPA Review

Thank you for the motivation. I am watching this around every hour. Gives me a little motivation seeing Peter Olinto waving around all that cash.

Willpower is overrated. We do things every day we have no desire to do, like go to work! Why do we do it? Because its a tool to get what we want…….

    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!

I was an auditor up until 1 year ago and switched back to industry (that's a whole other thread, being an auditor and trying to study for the exam), so I don't have any anxiety over AUD. I also already passed it once, 3 years ago now *sigh*, using Becker.

I have just started studying again as I scheduled AUD for November. I have the NINJA notes and have to say that I really like them and they are very focused on the concepts. I am using Wiley (book only) as well. I have passed both BEC and FAR with Wiley (book only) and also used the NINJA notes on FAR. I swear I passed FAR on the basis of reviewing the NINJA notes everyday on the bus on the way to work. I can't recommend them enough!

There are a lot of acronyms for AUD and I recommend you do memorize those because you will be asked questions on those items.

Basically understanding what testing is done and when (e.g. analytical procedures during planning and wrap-up) and when you increase or decrease substantive testing and what the auditors are responsible for versus the management will give you a solid basis to answer the questions. Also understand what makes up the 5 components of IC (CRIME)

    Control Activities

    Risk Assessment

    Information and Communication

    Monitoring

    control Environment

Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm right there with you. Somehow, I find calculations and all the other wonders of FAR much easier to study (even though it's harder material) because at least there's some substance to it. I'm studying for AUD too, and I just want to fall asleep. However, just keep you're head up, because your already halfway there in your journey “on your way to CPA baby” as Peter would say.

Super super boring. A good thing is, though, that the questions are all really similar to each other (in Becker/Wiley). If you do a ton of MCQs, you'll feel very comfortable with the types of questions you'll see on the exam. Also, (and I hope I don't get people mad about this — just my experience) the Sims are the easiest of all the exams. Just get through the lectures really fast and then beat the MCQs to death.

    Good luck!

    REG -- October 3!!
    FAR -- Pass
    BEC -- Pass
    AUD -- Pass

You guys aren't kidding about AUD. I'm in A4 in Becker right now, took me almost 3 days for that one 1 hour and 40 mins lecture and followed by the 121 MC questions! I have done 20 questions and got only 5 correct! This stuff is so boring and so hard to understand! For the past hour I have been just surfing the net trying to avoid doing those MC questions! I have no energy to do these. I would so rather work with numbers and doing calculations…bring back those BONDS and LEASES! No wait don't bring them back, I'm happy I finally passed FAR!! :p

chakdey, you are not alone, I have been worked in industry for 10 years and familiar with each Dept. job functions but I just got a low 20's score over 20 MCs . Unbelivable! I can't continue to finish all 121 MCs qustions, so frustrating. After several days depressed, self pity, angry, I decide back to MCs questions, I tell myself I can do it and my first Aud exam scheduled on 11/1, I have plenty of time to prepare the exam. I won't let myself down again, I found most people failed the exam because they were defeated by themself and lost motivation to move on. I won't let this happen to me ( at least now).

From talking with friends who have been working at the Big 4. They say that their managers tell them that surprisingly the one test that auditors end up failing is audit.

Seems like the academic way of doing it is not always the real life way of applying it. But, I found my motivation again. I just want this exam to be over with and never want to study for it again. Pain now for a nice big bonus latter!
