Hi everyone – Advice on passing AUD

    Hi everyone!

I’ve taken the AUD exam twice so far (62,66). The first time I studied, I only used the Wiley textbook, and practice on about 300 MC questions overall. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and looking back, I was definitely unprepared, and believe I deserved a 62 on the examination.

I knew I needed to do something different, and looked to Another71 and the NINJA framework for help. I first purchased the set of NINJA notes, and Rogers CPA course. While watching the lectures, I took intensive notes, and practice on some multiple-choice questions to reinforce those concepts. After finishing the lectures, I would review my notes, and practice on Multiple Choice questions on the Wiley Test bank. I would make sure I keep those routine every day; each day I would review all of my notes, and right afterwards I would head straight to doing the Wiley MC questions. Before the exam, I’d done close to 1,300 MCQs, and my overall score was 75% – scoring in the 80s during the last few days before my exam.

When I wrote the exam, I felt quite confident, as I thought I had knew most of the answers I clicked. But after getting my mark of 66, I was very lost. I didn’t know what to do. I knew if I studied the same way again, I would end up getting another 66.

Can you guys share some advice on how you were able to study and pass the AUD exam, or are there any areas that you guys think I can do / improve on?

    Thanks so much!

    BEC - 77 (08/2013)
    AUD - 62, 66, 73, 85 (01/2014)
    REG - 73, 69, 81 (04/2014)
    FAR - 62, 75! (05/2014)

DONE! Never give up. Humble and Grateful 🙂

For AUD it is very important that you actually understand the concepts and not just memorize the information being presented. On your score sheet that you got back for your second exam, what areas were you weaker, comparable, stronger in? This could definitely give you an idea as to where to turn for what to study harder on. While you may have been scoring in the 75-80 range in the WTB, were you actually understanding the answers or were you remembering them from previous sessions. I know that is a problem when you continue to use the same test bank after failing the test a few times.

As simple as it may sound, “grasp the information”, not mneumonics or quirky shortcuts. And in my studies, I realized I started to memorize the MCQ that the study guides were giving me, since a number of them were repeats. Go through each MCQ you got wrong, and learn why you got them wrong. And also, as simple as this may sound again … and I can't emphasize this enough, I've been guilty of it during exams, so I've started writing this on top of my scratch sheet at the start of each exam “RTFQ!!!!!!!!” (read the f*** question). The exam ALWAYS tries to trick candidates in the wording of the questions. I'm sure I lost numerous points in the past because I simply did not read the entire question, or pay attention to what the were asking for. Just my two cents.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

Don't look at the score sheet and study again for AUD like its your first time. If you only focus on your weaker points you will likely lose points on your stronger areas the next time you test. Like others have said make sure you really understand the question being asked and why the other answers are wrong. Audit is a play on word and one if/and/only might change up the whole answer.

Keep re-writing the ninja notes, and add the Wiley test bank and you should be good. Keep a notebook on the answers you get wrong. Memorize the structure of the reports!

It took me three tries before I finally passed AUD, Make sure you leave enough time for the SIMS as well.

Don't lose hope, you can do it.

I'm studying for AUD right now using Wiley/Yaeger and running into similar study issues. I don't think Wiley explains the solutions very well and the questions are confusing. The Wiley/Yaeger/Gleim combo has worked well for me in other exams so I'm thinking about sinking the money into Gleim MCQs & SIMS. For REG/BEC, the solutions for Gleim were explained really well so I'm hoping the same for AUD. I believe there was a Gleim trial period for free so might be worth checking out.

    REG - 89, 04/29/13
    BEC - 81, 08/06/13
    FAR - 84, 12/19/13
    AUD - 82, 10/05/13

Hi Kelch, I know exactly how you feel… I failed audit twice too.. and the 2nd time, I was so confused? How did this happen? I studied really hard. But anyway, obviously not hard enough for me to score only a 66. So I'm deciding to give forums a try and see if I can get anything out of this…
