AnonymousInactivePlease help as to how to study AUD, i just don’t know where I go wrong. 1st attempt used Yaegar,2nd and 3rd attempt supplemented with Gleim MCQ cd, 4th attempt used Lambers. Prof Garland was really good at explaining but something is lacking in my effort and just can’t seem to figure out where.
Should I use a new review course like Rogers/Becker or supplement what I already have with Gleim MCQ and Becker flashcards.
It would help if someone could share what has helped them clear this exam.I would lose REG credit if I am not able to pass in April/May.
thanks

herbert7890ParticipantI recommend Becker for AUD. If you decide on Becker, please do yourself a favor and buy the flashcards for AUD, you will thank me later. With Becker you should be able to find those “aha” moments often, as each topic is explained in a logical way and then you reinforce the material with the flashcards and mcqs.
FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85

wantmylifebackParticipantI've had good luck with Roger. It seems like he focuses on what you need to pass!
BEC - 83 (10/22/10)
REG - 87 (11/30/10)
AUD - 76 (02/26/11)
FAR - 79 (04/26/11)March 28, 2011 at 2:51 pm #276583
Erica HParticipantThe bigger question is how exactly are you working your MCQ, and what methods are you using to memorize the key parts that you have to spew out over and over again on audit?
Are you using mnemonics to memorize the audit standards, elements of internal control, and the control environment? Do you have the standard audit report memorized, and do you know when and how it gets either altered and/or qualified? Do you understand the differences between the types of tests (substantive, etc) and when they are used?
How are you scoring when you do your MCQ? When I studied audit I had exactly one week to study due to thinking I had a month left on my NTS but really only had 1 week when I went to schedule. Because of this I concentrated heavily on using mnemonics to memorize the things I mentioned above. I didn't have time for subtleties so I concentrated on rote memorization of the basic concepts- then when I got into the test I wrote down all my mnemonics after the test started and I seriously referred to them on about 75% of my questions.
I did about every 3rd question MCQ in my WIley book and only did more questions when I got one in a certain area wrong. Then I would concentrate on figuring out *why* I got it wrong, why the right answer was right, and I'd do all the rest of the questions in that area to confirm my understanding of that topic.
I used an older Gleim book to supplement my new WIley book, adn some old Gleim audios to review areas I didn't have time to study enough.
They key to passing is to understand why you're getting the questions wrong that you are getting wrong and correcting the knowledge in your head. Then go back and review the areas where you had problems to make sure the “corrected” knowledge is sticking.
AUD - 92
FAR - 73, 82
REG - 72, 82
BEC - 84 DONE!!!!!! 🙂March 28, 2011 at 4:53 pm #276584
AnonymousInactiveThanks guys for the reply.
herbert7890 – After, reading one of your post , I thought maybe I should get Becker flashcards only, not sure if I should buy the Becker study material for AUD. Since, as you can see I have already used Yaegar lectures, where Prof Gary explained good , but could not retain the material. Thereafter tried Lambers when I gave it in Feb 2011, where Prof Lambers was good as well, but then again I believe its me ,and I am not doing something right.
Bubunia -Sorry, to hear that you could not pass, but I think we should keep trying and hope for the best. About, Yaegar, they have helped me clear the other 3 parts but for this one, it has not worked for me.
wantmylifeback- I have heard Roger is good and infact, I was going to use it but then did not, now I am not sure whether I need lectures or practice more MCQ's .
Spectrum – I know what you are saying is true, but at this point I do not know where to begin or what to work with, losing confidence in myself as far as AUD is concerned. thanks for taking the time to explain so much. I fail to understand now, how one can get a score of 90 and more in AUD, whereas I am struggling to get a 75. I did not work with any mnemonics, thinking that I knew the material, but now I will have to try that approach. I did have the Wiely 2011 book and Lambers sotware ,which I did not work with as much. Did you use Wiley book and Gleim book only? Or did you also do the Gleim cd of addnl MCQ?

Erica HParticipantI used the Gleim book mainly to clarify things that were not covered well in the WIley book (ie. if there was a topic I was getting wrong and couldn't find good explanation in Wiley test, I would look at Gleim for that area). I truly feel the mnemonics were key for me passing and doing so well. A good deal of auditing is internal control, audit standards and the standard audit report. With the mnemonics I had all the elements there to look at on my notes sheet after I wrote them down. So I could say (for example, can't remember actual material at this point), “All right, they are asking which of the elements of internal control applies to this particular action, three of the answers are choices from this particular mnemonic list I wrote down, and the 4th is some random “attractor” item that I know is a garbage made-up word, this applies, this one doesn't fit, this other one doesn't fit, Answer is A.”
Having all those categories and sub-categories memorized allowed me to narrow down to one answer pretty much all the time…. all I had to know what what the mnemonics stood for (and of course know the difference between the words they stood for) and then all I had to do was classify the answers. There's no WAY I would have passed otherwise with that little studying.
AUD - 92
FAR - 73, 82
REG - 72, 82
BEC - 84 DONE!!!!!! 🙂March 29, 2011 at 2:43 am #276586
AnonymousInactivethanks for your suggestions. About the mnemonics, did you create your own from what you understood from the books or otherwise.

AUD is very easy to study and very difficult to pass!
The best courses for AUD are Becker and Lambers. However, those courses only took me so far. I had to do 3,000 questions to pass!
If I were you, I would order Becker for AUD. Becker and Becker's flashcards will give you the mneumonics that you need to memorize.
Next, you have four very valuable AICPA reports for failed AUD exams. Use them! Write down your individual scores for the different sections. If you do not know how to use Gleim to work on your weak areas, give Gleim a call. I was able to make my weak areas my strongest areas using this approach.
You are correct. I think that Yaeger is the best course for BEC, REG and FAR, but not AUD.

AnonymousInactivePassed – thanks
I haven't ordered Becker for any of the courses, so will see how to go about it, it should be expensive. I have already spent on my examination fees for taking the test 4 times now and the other material that I have. Its very difficult to stay positive at this point. At times feel like giving up, but will try this time and hope for the best.

Keep your chin up. No one will ask or care how many times you took AUD once you have your CPA.

AnonymousInactiveAnushka-
You're not the only one struggling with audit. I took Audit in February for the third time and once again I received a failing score… a lovely 67!!!
I've been using Roger, paid $50 for the online free repeat since I did the class the first time around. His lectures are good, but oftentimes I don't think he goes in great detail. I'm at a lost myself as to what to do… do I buy another course like Yaeger? Do more questions? I went through a ton of MCQ this past time, reviewed the reports, all the mnemonics and still didn't pass. I even felt good leaving the exam.
So I feel your pain…. my dilemma is I'm due to take FAR next, since my NTS expires May 21st. UGH!!!
Anyhow, just wanted to give you my thoughts on Roger… I was considering getting a CRAM course with Yaeger, hoping that gets me over a 75. I also considered getting Becker's flashcards.

AnonymousInactiveCPSU75 – thanks for sharing your thoughts about Roger, I am thinking between Roger and Becker. Becker is expensive. So still trying to decide. Or maybe will get Gleim.which I have yet to see, since the cd for Mcq does not have simulations.
About Yaegar it has not helped me with AUD. They have helped me with the other 3 parts though.
Goodluck to you as well.

AnonymousInactiveThanks PASSED for your recommendations. I was thinking I needed another review course. Roger doesn't seem to be cutting it for me, will definitely look into Lambers. I have the Wiley software as well, but I really think it's just about putting enough time into studying and reviewing. My job requires a lot of overtime…. almost year around. I am trying to squeeze in two hours after work, one hr before work and one hr during lunch…. But I think I might need to do more. EKKK!!!
Shoot me!! I'm loosing hope!
