Hey all, I am on my last test. I have passed the other 3 without many problems, but I have failed AUD twice. I thought I passed both times (Jan 2012, July 2012). I feel like I know the material so well, I took a 200 MCQ test on Becker and scored 175/200 and have done well on the simulations. Basically I feel like I know this stuff and its hard for me to study like I should for my test that is next week. Anyone been here before? Obviously I need to study hard to just get this over with and I’ve failed it twice so there is probably something I am overlooking. I feel like if I was bombing my practice tests it would be easier for me to have that motivation I need.

Have you been using Becker exclusively? At this point, since you have obviously been studying the material well, you may just have the “Becker Way” down pat. You might understand Becker's way of teaching and asking about the concepts and possibly even memorized the material.

Have you tried another question source? Try going over to https://cpareviewforfree.com

Sign up, it's free, and work through those questions. See how you compare.

I noticed with Wiley, I really got a grasp on how they word questions, some were verbatim paragraphs from the text. So it was easy to remember the answer. I could even recall what side of the book and which paragraph I had read the statement. But when the question was reworded and asked differently, I realized I didn't' have the concept down.

I do think confidence level will impact studies.

I agree, I think you can get “used to” you study materials, I haven't done much with CPA review for free for this test but it's probably a good idea. What I meant by confidence hurting study habits is that when I feel like I have everything down, I can't help thinking “why should I keep working this hard when I feel like I know it well enough”.

I seeee….. OVERconfidence, can be harmful too, maybe even more so.

If you scored a 50 and a 68, but thought you passed before… then I don't know how you can be so comfortable. Those scores should have been reality checks to your confidence.

I mean, if you thought you passed those, then you probably thought you knew the material then. And you couldn't have known it well enough… (that is not to be read in a mean way, I really just think your confidence is misplaced).

You could sign up for the Wiley trial today (I think it lasts 24 hours). Take a couple of the full blown exams and see how you score. Also just work through the pop quizes and maybe take a few of the practice sessions on your weakest and strongest areas. It has a really good reporting feature that can help you gauge your readiness.

If you score near the 88% using Wiley too, then you have every right to be confident and you will probably hit AUD out of the park on your test day.

If you feel prepared, and don't have the motivation to continuously review until exam day, consider moving your test up if there is availability.

    Good Luck!

Yes, that is the primary reason I am afraid, because I thought I passed the first two tests with those scores. I am going to check out that 24 hour Wiley trial. Thanks for the info.

You can memorize the answers to any review courses questions. If I take a full FAR practice test on the Wiley Test Bank, I score in the 90's and have been doing that for a while. I know the questions so well, that not only do I know the answer is $100 but it's B. I have to force myself to read the questions because I've seen them so many times. Variety is a good thing after a while! Good Luck!

Confidence has hurt my study habits, but it's usually crushed by a progress test. I've heard so many good things about Wiley that I'll definitely at least start a trial.

    FAR: 10/19/2013 - 83

I think confidence can really help or hurt you. I dont think it has affected me too much. I found out I passed my first exam FAR while I was in the middle of studying for Auditing and I ended up faling Auditing. I dont think however that I reduced my study load. I think it was just poor exam execution. I finished with an hour left as I felt I was rushing way too much.

My suggestion for you is to to really do the MC over and over again. Doing a 200 question progress test is not good enough. For me, I was doing 200MC EVERY DAY for about two weeks. And thats on the side of reviewing my hand written notes and looking over practice SIMs and doing both practice exams. After failing my first auditing exam, I bought the Wiley test bank and ninja notes. I really hustled and only gave myself 16 days to restudying the material after taking my REG exam so I can fit three exams inside this testing window. Hopefully we both pass! Good luck!

I agree that it's good to mix up the sources of your questions as much as possible. I took the NIU CPA Review and have done the quizzes they provided so many times I've gotten to the point where I often know the answer to a question just by skimming the answers; I don't even have to read the question. That's not good. That's why I also purchased Gleim's software, am using Becker's questions since it is provided by my employer, and am planning on grabbing the Wiley book from my library if I have time.
