Has anyone taken an exam without studying?

I have AUD scheduled this Friday. I can’t push it out anymore because my NTS is up on 1/8. Any suggestions? From what I can tell, I can’t get reimbursed for canceling the exam (dang). But I’m wondering if it’s even worth my time to go to the exam since I haven’t looked at any material for it yet.

I just took FAR today (I had to reschedule it from November because I wasn’t ready yet) so I’ve been busy with studying for that and haven’t even looked at AUD yet. I’d appreciate any suggestions or words of wisdom. From what I understand, AUD is a lot of memorization? But the questions are quite theory based so it can be hard to study for?

I just checked and I got a B+ in External Auditing and that was tough!

It makes for a good experiment if nothing else. I'm sure stranger things have happened.

We have an external auditor who comes in and he said he took AUD without studying at all, figuring all his experience would get him through it. He did fail, but I think he wasn't off the charts on a score.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I would look at it as a fact finding mission! You never know, you just might get lucky ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, you already paid for it. Just go get a feeling of the actual exam. It'll definitely help you pass next time.

I think my boss took all the exams first without studying.

He failed and had to study ๐Ÿ™‚

You may as well take it – can't do any harm and it may help you study for it (if you don't pass it now :-)).

    @Acct

I'm sure your boss is not the only one. And I'm secretly happy that the exams show them who the boss is ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yup. I'm pretty sure I've read on here about other people who barely studied (if at all) the first time around…

My CFO told me that he barely studied his first time around and failed. He said once he buckled down and became serious about it that he passed without a problem.

I read one page of Becker before I took BEC for the first time and I made a 42. Studied like hell and made a 72.

I have also taken FAR and REG without studying. Like yankee said, I was on fact finding missions. I did see some of the same questions and sims again, but not many.

It gives you a feel for the exam without the pressure of thinking, “I've got to pass”. It's great practice.

    AUD – 76 – July 11

    REG – 68 – May 11 , 79 – Aug 11

    BEC – 79 – April 11

    FAR – 64 – Aug 11 , 76 – Nov 11

I took REG without studying much the second time. I was studying hard for FAR for the first time and flunked that test. Than I had only a week before the 2nd REG test. All I did was review SIM areas mostly that I felt I did bad on the first time and then that SIM material was not even on the test.

Then results came and I passed AUD and REG and flunked FAR as expected. I really didn't think I passed REG because I didn't study that hard. But I guess I most of retained enough from my studying for the first time. But it was a great feeling to have 3 exams out of the way so I could just concentrate again on FAR. As you can see I came up 13 pts on REG and 12 pts on FAR on my retakes.

I attribute all to the luck of the draw. The MC seem to be the same in terms of toughness but the SIMS can be really the deal breaker. The first time for me on both REG and FAR I knew I didn't pass based on my answers to the questions and time spent. I was up against it time wise in REG and ran out of time for FAR. But the second time I finished both with plenty of time to spare.

    Good Luck

Yep! Took AUD without studying. I only gave myself 3 weeks of study time to begin with and in the end I just didn't use any of it…

I figured that I'd already paid for it so why not just give it a shot? I could have gotten lucky and passed or if not at least gotten a better feel for the exam.

I ended up with a 63 =/ not great. But it did give me the confidence that if I at least studied a little I could improve my score enough to pass.

I say go for it. If you don't, then you've wasted your money. Plus you never know, you could get lucky and pass. Odds are not in your favor but stranger things have happened ! =)

    B - 79 PASSED (1/4 there!)
    A - 77 PASSED (1/2 there!)
    F - 79 PASSED (3/4 there!)
    R - 83 PASSED (DONE!!!!!!)

It's okay to study a little and go try your luck or gather info for a retake.

What annoys me are people who think they know the stuff, just because they're managers or something. And when they fail, I can't help but smirk wickedly ๐Ÿ˜›
