I had many unsuccessful attempts between the years 2010-2011. I gave up and decided the CPA just wasn’t for me. After years at my same job as a staff accountant at a small CPA firm I decided to give it another go. Just not many prospects out there for a bachelor’s degree in accounting I found out. I took REG in early July after three months of studying and holy lord. I could not have bombed it any worse. (Still awaiting my results, but I’m a realist.) I’m using Becker text and Wiley test questions. I’m gearing up for Audit at the end of August. I generally just read the text and do practice questions/sims. I’m just looking for general study tip and advice or affordable supplements. I’ve had a rather stressful time recently with the topic of audit evidence so all ideas are welcome.

While I can't say my results have been the best (REG: 71, waiting for re-test grade), I have been happy so far with my study material. I am using Roger full course for study and did the Wiley test bank for REG as a supplement. I think the m/c questions for Wiley are great but the sims are terrible and didn't prepare me well. Currently, I am studying for FAR and am still using Roger as the basis of my study course but am going to use Ninja m/c to supplement. I posted a similar question and heard that Ninja is a great aide. It's reasonably priced as well if you only get one section to give it a try. I studied 240 hours for REG but felt like the study materials didn't ask enough of the questions that the real test did and expecting to fail again. I wish I had studied more on like-kind exchanges, Treasury Circular 230, and accountant responsibility as that's what my last test asked a lot about.

You studied REG for three months and feel like you bombed it? You must be working full time…how many hours do you study per week? I would say three months is a bit long because you will start to forget the things you learned in the beginning.

Study the material as if it's your first time studying for it. Once Im finished reviewing lecture videos, I then find myself hammering away at MCQs and TBSs. I did poorly at first, but then the topics started to really sink in.

NINJA is a great addition to what you have, I usually tell people to go with Wiley because the questions are formatted to look like the CPA exam on exam day, but these days Wiley seems so expensive. Honestly, aside from the formatting, NINJA has everything you need in a test bank. I wish you the best of luck.

Ninja audio and blitz really helped me a ton. Use them during your commute, housework, etc. and the concepts will really sink in.

@Austin_109 I study about 15-20 a week. I do work full time. I decided to get going right around the end of tax season. So to be ready to take it at the end of May would have been a little difficult and June was an off month. Thanks for the reply. And thanks everyone as well.

I know that NINJA Notes really helps me understand and reinforce some of the concepts, and give me key areas to focus in on. I hope you pass!

Ninja Audio and Notes and the WTB were essential to me passing FAR and AUD. I didn't watch videos and only read half the book for FAR. It was really just a matter of using the Ninja Notes as a starting point, hammering out as many MCQ as possible and truly trying to understand what I got wrong and why, and listening to the audio as much as possible. The problem I have with lectures/books is the amount of little facts that are not that important, but you feel are important as you are watching/reading. That's why I choose to focus on the MCQ. You really get a feel for exactly what is going to be on the test. Could other things be in there that aren't in the MCQ? Of course, but the bulk of what you need to know is covered in the test bank and Ninja Notes.
