CPA Exam is a “Lake Superior with one inch deep”, which means that it covers huge amount of material but it never drills into the details.

Guys what do you think is that true ?!

Am a CPA International candidate and am going to sit for the exam first time in my life on May. So I just need to know more about the CPA exam.

    Thanks

    🙂

Disagree. I took BEC yesterday and it dove into way more detail than I expected on some topics.

It depends on the exam. For FAR it is more like a million miles wide and 1/2″ deep. For me, REG was the same way. BEC was in depth on certain topics. AUD was similar to BEC. But that's just my opinion.

My biggest concern would be that you're exam is in May and you're asking to learn more about the exam one month out…

    AUD- 97 1x
    REG- 81 1x
    BEC- 79 1x
    FAR- 88 1x

    DONE!

    10/1/12 to 2/28/14

My review book was saying something similar (CPA exam is very broad but not that deep). I'd say that's a fair description for many of the multiple choice questions, but not with SIMs. SIMs can be tough. Just be prepared to go deep on some of the SIMS!

    2012 (Kaplan)
    REG: 70, 72
2013 (Kaplan, Wiley Test Bank & textbooks, Ninja audio)
    FAR 2/21/13: 75
    REG rematch 4/2/13: 84
    AUD: 5/22/13: 86
    BEC: 7/30/13 ... 86!

Short answer? No. I haven't taken FAR and BEC yet, but if you don't absorb the details for auditing you won't pass. Trust me. 😉 Especially on the SIMS, you need an in depth understanding of the topics!

    Good luck!!!! 🙂

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

I disagree with the 1 inch deep – the FAR exam covers an amazingly broad amount of material but you must really know stuff – – not just gloss over it – and on top of that they make very tricky questions – – seriously – no need to trick us – it is hard enough as is.

Reg feels like it is a lot of material as well — but i haven't taken the test yet.

    FAR 11/2012: 80
    AUD 2/19/2013: 90
    REG 5/14/2013: 76
    BEC 11/2013: 85
    Ethics: 100
    Waiting on the packet....

definitely NOT— I think its extremely in depth and does not just skim the surface. It is more like this… imagine looking at a mountain in front of you (and you've studied this mountain, you know its rocks, trees, and ridges WELL)…… now imagine someone asking you what is on the other side of that mountain???? and…. the answer is??? How the heck do I know….yep… that about sums up MY experience…

In my opinion, in depends on the section. I think FAR goes into the most depth of all of them; I think that my strongest area is financial accounting and I recall several questions on the actual exam that went to a level that I was not expecting. BEC is relatively basic with a few exceptions; the issue there is that it covers so many topics that are related only in the sense that they have something to do with business, but the actual depth of the material isn't too bad. I thought REG went into the least depth of all of them; I can understand just scratching the surface with the business law stuff, but a lot of the taxation material that is test – especially for corporations – is relatively elementary.

I'm not sure what to think of AUD yet as I took it yesterday afternoon and haven't had the chance to properly consider it in hindsight, but I did think that a lot of the questions were relatively basic as well. I was concerned with a lot of the finer points that the Wiley book covered, but it seemed to me that AUD really stuck to the basics.

Disagree, definitely. There were plenty of details tested on my exams.

    LOL at the mountain metaphor!

It's a mile wide and a mile deep in my opinion.

Except they will only touch on random topics (most likely the ones you are weaker in) and they will delve into the details.

    I hate this exam.
