Failed audit again. Thinking about giving up. Was killing the multiple choice questions on Wiley test bank and still got 68. Maybe it was the sims. But not sure how to study those besides just doing multiple choice. I had enough. Already lost my one passing score. Starting to think ill never get it done. Sorry for venting. But I’m sick of this. Even if I take again in January and pass I’ll never pass the other 3 in 18 months.

ihatestudying–will you please look at my signature line… if this truly means something to you then don't give up. If you can honestly say you will never think about this exam again and how you should have finished it then walk away but I bet you can't tell yourself that. Giving up isn't an option for me…the only easy day was yesterday. Dust yourself off and get back on the horse it may take time but it will be worth it!

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ihatestudying, I wouldn't give up if I were you. I would change my study methods. If you are capable of passing 1 you are capable of passing 3 more. Evaluate your study methods. Are you taking to long for a section, too short for a section, have you tried the NINJA method, do you need to try a different course? You really can do this.

Video 1 here at about 5:00: “…don't cry to give up, you're already in pain, get a reward from it…”

I agree with CpaMan and jonathansays–try a new review software. I used Roger (cram) and have really liked it. He explains everything in great detail….but that is me. Truth is, everyone is different, you have to figure out which one suits you best. Or maybe you need to use multiple test banks?

I also agree with Keeptrying. She has a great quote, “the only easy day was yesterday” how true that is. Take some time to mourn, etc. and get back up on that horse. I will be taking Audit on Wednesday for my third try.(serenity now!) It sucks, but take a deep breath, take a big slurp of your favorite libation, and find your gumption, and get it going.

Keeptrying. I'm not too far behind your number of attempts and have zero parts. So frustrating. What study material you using now? I had ninja notes and used Wiley test bank this last time around.

And I also used Yeager cram also this time around. And In the past I used Yeager home study and failed a few attempts that way. Also failed bec twice. And also took reg a few times before I passed and then lost it. Stressed out

Jonathon. Is exammatrix also a test bank or is it a whole study program with lectures and text books and everything ?

It's more of a review course. It's a test bank with a different approach. Check out their website (www.exammatrix.com).

It worked for me on AUD, FAR, and REG. However, it has not worked for BEC. I am struggling with the concepts on BEC and really think it may cause an end to my CPA journey, so I completely understand your frustration.

I pretty much promise if you go through their program on AUD that you'll pass.

Okay so I know I've documented somewhere on this forum my study methods….but okay here is what has worked for me the past couple times…

Far-only have used Becker for lectures and homework, took notes (granted not great ones but ones that had the neumonics), and listened to the Gleim audio lectures on my 3 hour drive to San Antonio to take the exam. The night before the exam I stayed in a hotel room and took several Gleim practice exams. The MCQs have been key for me to learning the subject matter.

Reg-Becker for lectures and homework. I also used Gleim for the MCQs…did well over 700 questions for Reg using Gleim. I also listened to the audio lectures on my way to the exam; only a 20 minute drive this last time.

Aud-Just saying audit leaves a bitter taste in my mouth….I used Gleim lectures, Becker lectures, and Gleim MCQs. I did well over 2000 Gleim MCQs on Audit. Gleim mixes up the answer choices so you can't just memorize the answers. I also used the NINJA notes as a final review the last week before the exam and right before the exam. I used the Yeager Audit cram on my last 74 with Audit and I used it again this last time just as a refresher on how to take the exam. Bulmash does a great job telling you how to eliminate bogus answers. I can not say this enough, be sure to read each question carefully.

BEC-this time and still waiting on my score, NINJA notes, Yeager homestudy and Gleim MCQs. We shall see if it worked this time….

Just don't give up if you can realistically see yourself wanting this again. You will kick yourself for letting it go, trust me…I gave up for a while and I never thought i would be in the position I am today with 75% complete. You can only hold yourself back from being amazing at this exam. You have to want this as much as you want to breathe! This has been a post it on my desk at work since the day I watched the Eric Thomas Success video: “The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become.”

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75

thanks keeptrying, and jonathon for your advice..and good luck to you both…i will look into some of these other methods..although i have spent thousands of dollars already on study programs, and exam fees, and i have absolutely nothing to show for it…so depressing

    @Ihatestudying

I know how you feel. last window I didn't pass the two exams I sat for. And to boot, my hubby never asked about the second score. Felt like crap. But like Keeptrying said, you have to want this as much as you want to breathe! You can do it! To me, I don't want anyone or anything to make me feel bad about myself. I am in control of that. I want to succeed.

@Ihatestudying: I truly can't imagine how disheartening a failing score must be, especially once you've studied so hard. That being said, I know it's easy for me to say to not give up since I've had good fortune on this exam. But when it comes to anything, if you could walk away from this and not regret it in five years, then go for it.

If you decide to continue, here's what's worked for me. I have been using Becker (no real choice here, my firm paid for it and wouldn't pay directly for the others, so I figured what the heck). The courses are very good. It seems a bit doubtful at times, but they prepare you very well for the exam. If you have taken the exam multiple times, then something needs to change. Either your study materials, your study method, and most likely a combination of both. Ask yourself (and look at your score reports) to see where you're falling short. Overall, it seems that you may not be focused enough on truly understanding what you study and you may just be going through the motions.

I truly wish you the best. This is a tough journey for many, and it can be made more difficult by the obstacles. But if you are doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, doesn't that sound a little crazy?

    Good luck!

    BEC 86 (08/30/11)
    FAR 84 (10/13/11)
    REG 88 (11/08/11)

    @ihatestudying

I'm sorry you failed. But today is a new day! You can do it this time!! Don't let this get you down! I was going to post a video here but realized it's on the motivational video thread…

Of course you have something to show for all the times you studied – you probably have a better chance of passing this time than other people studying for the 1st time! People have unfortunately failed more times than you and stuck to this and passed! So you can do it, too!!

    Good luck!

    thanks everyone for the encouragement…

i want to finish this, i just dont want to be studying for the next 5 years just to keep failing…i have been doing this since 2006, granted i wasnt taking it seriously in the beginning and after i failed i would wait 6 months + before i would try again..but still, been basically trying to become a CPA for 5 years now.

Im going to look into a different study material. maybe exam matrix that jonathon mentioned above. i just re-applied for a new NTS for audit..but now with busy season coming it will be hard to study from January – April…..so im going to aim for January re-take and if by some miracle i pass will have to find some time during tax time to get studying in befor ei let it expire like i have done in the past..
