Both times I received a 73 and a 71. Failing probably by one or two questions. I will take audit again in less than 3 weeks and will do a couple practice exams, a bunch of review questions, and re-read ninja notes and flashcards. One question I have though is – Is there any topic I should actually read into more in depth that would help me answer questions more easily instead of guessing?

What I mean is this, in BEC, the exam asks you a lot of questions concerning the COSO & ERM models. My knowledge of COSO & ERM stem from watching videos and doing practice questions. I didn’t bother actually reading into depth of these topics and memorizing each corner of the module by heart. In audit, is there a topic or two that is usually widely tested that I should read into depth more as it would help me answer a wide array of questions?

Honestly, I am finding Becker AUD “final” review very good. The lecturer is very concise. Everything is broken up into bit sized pieces. I felt I was prepared for AUD by going through the 6 chapter regular Becker course, but now I realize I did not know enough. However, this final review course goes into much more detail, and helps to tie everything together.

Just my two cents.

Are you using NINJA to do practice exams, questions, or what is your review course? If you haven't spent a measly $40 ish dollars to buy NINJA review questions, do it.

AUD is more about the application and analytical thinking. I don't think there is one section to re-read or cover.

Do the practice questions, and re-do the questions you get wrong. Sure it sucks getting owned on the practice questions, but once you start to understand the background and the application in the question, you will be much better off. Don't go through the motions.

You need to know it all for Audit. Every time I took that test it was completely random. I would say just hit a test bank (both MC and Sims) one more time then retake it. You already know the material based on your previous scores, you just need to solidify the concepts.

I agree with @Everybodyswaiting – I bought NINJA MCQ for my 2nd go at AUD and it paid off. AUD material is not difficult to understand, but the way they test it is extremely difficult. So to conquer that, what worked for me was doing literally about 7,000 MCQ questions between my fail and retake (in about a month). That taught me to be able to see the material in any-which-way that they might present it on the exam, and I think it paid off.

Given that you've been so close twice already, I really think you are ready to pass AUD. I got a 71 my first time and swore I had passed when I left Prometric after that test. The biggest thing that I think helped me was going super slow the second time I took it (literally double checked every single MCQ) but still make sure you leave around 2 hours for SIMS. The first time I took AUD, I finished with an hour and a half left. The second time, eight minutes left. So my biggest advice is to take the exam diligently and you will pick up those last few points you need. Best of luck to you!

I am convinced that the Sims are the culprit behind your grades…as well as mine.

Some people get harder Sims while others get easier Sims. I obviously can not go into detail about which I think are considered easier but the ones that you can literally fill in or copy from the AL are obviously easier than the the FAR based Sims that catch you between a rock and a hard place.

I've concluded that no matter how hard you study, it all comes down to the luck of the draw. The more you take it the more your spread your luck with the Sims. The MCQs are pretty self explanatory especially if you have done thousands of them.

I have failed AUD twice as well. More heart broken the second time because I thought I had it that time. My first time the Sims were more “doable” but I was lacking in MCQ (didn't spend that much time or effort in Ninja MCQ because I was doing so well in Becker)…second time I flew through the MCQs (and ended up doing stronger) and got demolished by the Sims.

Third time will hopefully be the charm because I am really starting to lose my patience with these exams…

I had taken the AUD section once in 2012 and once in 2013 and got scores of 51 and 47 respectively. For me, I believe my culprit was the MCQs. On my last pass/fail letter that I received, it showed that my SIMS were considered comparable in the 75-80 score range. All areas for the MCQs were considered weaker.

I used the Gleim review system and there were some SIMS that were exactly like the actual CPA exam. My scores were pretty low and that was due to not properly studying like I should.

If I were you, I would drill through those MCQs like crazy, something I should have done back when I first prepared for the exam.

I am now in a better place and plan on re-studying for CPA exam now. I plan on studying for and taking AUD this summer.

Began my CPA journey in 2012 using Gleim and mistakenly paid to take all 4 parts within 6 months:
AUD - 51, 47 (did not study properly)
REG - 39 (did not study at all, just took it on a whim)
Did not sit for FAR or BEC
I gave up in 2013... 🙁

Resumed my CPA journey in 2016 using Gleim again with the following plan:
